Horizon 3 Could Stay Years Away While Guerrilla Focuses on Co-Op Game

A Bloomberg report says most of Guerrilla Games remains assigned to Horizon Hunters Gathering, leaving only a small team to plan the next single-player entry.

The next mainline Horizon sequel may not be ready for years. An August 19 Bloomberg report says most of Guerrilla Games’ developers remain assigned to Horizon Hunters Gathering, while only a small team is working on plans for the next single-player game. The report points to 2030 as the earliest possible year for the sequel, though that is an optimistic estimate rather than a confirmed target.

Guerrilla’s teams remain split between two Horizon projects

The staffing picture is tied to changing plans for Horizon Hunters Gathering. Following poor feedback from private playtests, the multiplayer project is reportedly moving away from a live-service model and toward a conventional co-op format. The revised direction is outlined in the smaller co-op plan. The project could still be canceled if it fails to satisfy PlayStation executives by the end of 2026.

Horizon Hunters Gathering was announced in February, and most of Guerrilla was already assigned to it at that point. The studio’s single-player Horizon work had a much smaller team behind it then, and the latest update indicates that division of labor is still in place. The sequel remains in planning rather than moving toward a near-term launch.

The wait could exceed the first two games’ five-year gap

The first two mainline games arrived five years apart: Horizon Zero Dawn in 2017 and Horizon Forbidden West in 2022. If the current estimate holds, the wait for the next entry will be longer than that earlier gap.

PlayStation’s wider live-service push provides the backdrop for the situation. Reworking Horizon Hunters Gathering changes the multiplayer project’s direction, but it has not moved most of Guerrilla’s staff onto the next single-player game. For now, the update concerns staffing and planning rather than a launch announcement.
