Guntouchables, a co-op roguelite from indie developer Game Swing, grabbed attention by giving away its game for free during the first 24 hours of launch. Over two million people claimed it, an impressive number for a small studio of just five people. That huge interest seems to have caught the eye of Deep Rock Galactic publisher Ghost Ship, which has now taken on publishing duties for the game.
Game Swing shared an update on the Guntouchables Steam page, saying they were “blown away” by the response and grateful for the support and kind words from players. It’s a big deal for a small team when so many people show up at once… kinda like throwing a party and having the whole neighborhood turn up.
Guntouchables is a shooter where one to four players land on a fallen world overrun by mutants. The gameplay combines co-op action with bullet hell elements somewhat reminiscent of Vampire Survivors. Players fight off waves of enemies while completing objectives and collecting UpCrates that grant cash and perks to survive the rising difficulty.
Players can go solo or team up, and between runs, there’s a choice or vote on enemy mutations and player perks, adding a layer of strategy to the mix. It’s a simple concept, but it can get pretty intense once the mutant hordes start piling up. Who doesn’t like a bit of chaos with friends, right?
If you missed the free giveaway, don’t worry. The game is now available at $5, which is pretty modest for what you get. It hasn’t yet gathered a large number of reviews to match the player count, but the devs are actively encouraging players to share feedback and report any bugs or issues.
They openly admit being a tiny team without AAA resources, so every message and bit of encouragement helps them improve the game. It’s kinda nice to see such a down-to-earth approach from developers, especially in today’s big-budget gaming world.
