Players on PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S can install the free Ghost Recon Wildlands: Last Rites update now. The release adds a linear story mission, a new cult led by La Llorona, broader gameplay controls, extra character customization, and 4K and 60 FPS support on PS5, PS5 Pro, and current-generation Xbox consoles.

PS5 upgrades are free for existing owners
Existing owners can download the PS5 upgrade at no additional cost. Players with disc copies must keep the Blu-ray in their console whenever they want to launch the PS5 version.
The upgrade improves distance rendering, lighting, shadows, combat smoothness, and image sharpness while supporting 4K gameplay at 60 FPS on PS5 and PS5 Pro. The PlayStation Store listing also identifies 3D audio, DualSense haptic feedback, and faster SSD loading times as part of the PS5 release.
Last Rites brings La Llorona to Bolivia
The new mission begins like a familiar Ghost operation before turning into something far more unsettling. Nomad and the Ghosts enter territory controlled by Los Penitentes, a fanatical group bound by faith, sacrifice, and violent justice.
The cult follows La Llorona, a mysterious figure treated as an icon of justice by her followers. Her disciples wear masks and surrender their individuality as they carry out her orders. The mission gradually reveals her history through documents and audio recordings scattered throughout the region.
Ubisoft Bordeaux described La Llorona as someone shaped by betrayal and loss. Her campaign against those responsible for her suffering puts the Ghosts in conflict with both the cult and the corrupt Bolivian government forces connected to her past.
One of the story’s key moments takes place at Varga’s villa. The reveal of La Llorona in her widow mask leads to a confrontation with the Los Penitentes and changes what Nomad understands about the mission. The story also brings him face to face with Emily Price, his CIA handler.
Last Rites can be launched directly from the main menu without completing the original campaign, and starting the new mission will not spoil the main story. The English version also brings back the original voice actors for Nomad and the other main characters, along with a dedicated musical theme for La Llorona and new audio and character content.
The Predator hunt returns to Wildlands
The Predator mission returns as another major addition. Players can fast travel to a rally point near the mission in Caimanes, although the developers recommend preparing before facing the hunter. Rewards from the hunt, including the Predator Bio-Mask, can be used in Last Rites, while the update’s two new Operator Skins can also be used in the main campaign.
New settings let players rebuild the rules of Wildlands
Last Rites gives players far more control over how a session plays. New Ghost Parameters in the Options menu let players choose anywhere from zero revives, effectively enabling instant death, to unlimited revives, carry one or two primary weapons, and turn on tactical reloads that discard ammunition left in the magazine.
The new World and Session Settings appear in the Lobby menu and affect the wider game world. Players can change:
- Weather and time of day, including fixed conditions such as nighttime or rain
- Alarm and jammer behavior
- Enemy patrol frequency
- SAM launcher behavior, including whether destruction remains permanent for the session
- Friendly fire in co-op
Friendly fire can support a more realistic co-op run or role-play scenarios between friends. Hosts can also enable player-versus-player encounters inside the campaign. Team Composition is more flexible, letting a host play with one, two, or three AI companions instead of switching the entire team on or off.
Ubisoft has expanded the existing HUD and UI options as well. Players can hide impact and trajectory previews for throwable items, as well as the visual shader on interactable objects such as ammunition crates and objectives. Hiding those interface elements also disables their related audio cues. The updated Difficulty settings let players adjust Enemy Perception, Endurance, Vehicle Breakability, the delay before health regeneration, and other parts of the experience.
Free gear and PlayStation Plus rewards
The update adds new customization items for Nomad and the rest of the Ghost team. Many weapons and pieces of equipment are now unlocked for free, including previously unreleased camouflage patterns and rewards tied to challenges that were not previously obtainable.
All Ghost War PvP classes can also be unlocked for free through the in-game store. New Character Smith items mark the franchise’s 25th anniversary, and completing Last Rites unlocks a mysterious Operator Skin.
PlayStation Plus members receive three additional items: an exclusive La Llorona Iconic Skin, the P416 Micteca, and the 4-SHUR Blue Leader Sunglasses.
Community feedback shaped the update
Wildlands launched nearly a decade ago, but its mix of open-world freedom, solo play, and four-player co-op has kept its community active. Ubisoft Bordeaux said the team studied player behavior and playstyles throughout the game’s post-launch support.
That work helped the team recognize a group it initially called “Sandbox Players.” These players used the game’s systems to create their own rules, from cooperative military-simulation runs to self-imposed challenges that could turn one mission into a lengthy operation. The team also used community workshops, forum discussions, and role-playing videos to understand how players were using Bolivia as a custom military playground.
Ghost Mode and crossover missions involving Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six Siege were among the earlier additions shaped by that broader understanding of the community. For Last Rites, the developers met with community leaders, organized feedback into themes, and prioritized requests based on player impact and different playstyles.
How to access Ghost Recon Wildlands: Last Rites
Last Rites is included with Ghost Recon Wildlands on PS4 and PS5. New players can access the game through Ubisoft+ Classics as a standalone subscription or through PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium. On Xbox Series X|S, the game is available through Xbox Game Pass Premium or Ultimate and a Ubisoft+ Premium for Xbox subscription.
PlayStation Plus Extra members can download Ghost Recon Wildlands from the catalog at no additional cost. A free trial is also available to everyone through August 10, 2026, and progress made during the trial will carry over if the full game is purchased later.
Ghost Recon Wildlands is also part of Xbox Free Play Days through August 9, giving Xbox players a chance to try the game and its new update at no cost during the event. Progress can carry over if they purchase the game afterward.
Ubisoft Connect is offering free access to both Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint from August 6 through August 10, 2026. Players can also claim a free copy of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier to keep on the service through August 13, while franchise anniversary sales run alongside the promotion.
The Standard and Definitive Editions are available through the PlayStation Store. The Definitive Edition includes the base game, Season Pass, Year 2 Pass, and four extra content packs: Quick Start, Deluxe, Nightfall Protocol, and Cold Eye. Existing owners can also access a Definitive Edition Upgrade.
Wildlands is discounted to $4.99/£4.49 through August 12, 2026 as part of Sony’s Summer Sale.
