Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator Will Use 3 Separate Career Modes

Mode Switch will keep money and map exploration shared while separating progression, vehicles, statistics, and active jobs by career.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator are preparing to move beyond one shared driving career. SCS Software’s Mode Switch system will separate Truck Mode, Car Mode, and Coach Mode, giving each type of vehicle its own progression and career tools while keeping them connected through a shared profile.

SCS Software explained the system in its September 25 Steam announcement covering the upcoming Coaches DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2 and Road Trip for American Truck Simulator. Truck Mode will continue to focus on cargo deliveries and building a trucking business. Car Mode will center on travel and customer reputation, while Coach Mode will be built around scheduled routes, passenger comfort, and satisfaction.

Shared money, separate progression

Each career will track its own vehicles, progression, statistics, and other mode-specific information. Car Mode will use reputation instead of traditional experience points, while the truck and coach careers will retain their own progression systems.

Money and map exploration will carry across all three modes. Roads discovered in a car will remain discovered when players return to a truck or coach, and earnings will remain part of the same overall profile. Players also will be limited to one active job across all modes at a time.

Mode switching will be available whenever the player is not driving. Selecting another career will let players manage its vehicles and information, but the change will only become active after pressing the Drive button. Navigation will initially remain tied to the mode driven most recently, so a new route cannot be adjusted until the player gets on the road. Once driving begins, the correct navigation and gameplay systems for that mode will take over.

Vehicles will remain at their last locations

The map will show the positions of other owned vehicles, along with the player’s current position during a Quick Job. Switching careers will let drivers continue from wherever they left their truck, coach, or car, which should make moving between different types of work less disruptive.

The new structure also affects fatigue. Rest State, which represents the driver’s overall tiredness, will be shared across modes. Mandatory Breaks will remain separate from it, with trucks and coaches required to observe them while cars will not be subject to the same rules.

Separating the careers gives the Coaches DLC and Road Trip room to offer different kinds of play without turning every vehicle into part of one progression track. Players who want to haul freight, carry passengers, or build a reputation through car travel will be able to change direction while keeping their money and discovered roads.
