Deadlock reached a new Steam peak of 262,145 concurrent players on October 9, surpassing Team Fortress 2’s Steam peak of 253,997. SteamDB’s Deadlock chart and Team Fortress 2 chart track the figures.
Both records count concurrent Steam players, not each game’s full audience. Team Fortress 2’s figure does not include activity on its Xbox 360 and PS3 versions in The Orange Box.
The record coincided with Solomon’s October 9 arrival, the latest release in the six-hero rollout. His weapon is a chessboard that changes with its remaining ammunition, with layouts based on historical games. The timing is notable, but the player count alone cannot show whether Solomon drove the increase.
All variations of Solomon's chessboard!
After reloading, the pieces on the new character's board rearrange into a new layout based on his remaining ammo count. Every position is taken from an actual historical game.

Valve launched City Never Sleeps on September 29, and Deadlock had already topped 228,000 concurrent players shortly after the update went live. The update overhauled Cursed Apple’s map, refreshed its shop and event feed, and introduced new Haunts, The Broker, and corrupted items. Its six-hero rollout began October 2, with Nurse Harrow, Rat King, Solomon, Deadman Danny, Baba, and Violet arriving in stages.
