Dead by Daylight Adds Patch-Free Balance Tweaks and 3 Mori Types

The 10.2.2a backend update changes The Executioner and The Good Guy without a download, while the October stream also outlined six 10.3.0 perk adjustments and a January 10.4.0 update.

Dead by Daylight’s 10.2.2a backend update puts Behaviour Interactive’s Backend Tunables system to work on The Executioner and The Good Guy. Players do not need a new content download, but must restart the game for the changes to take effect, as the studio states in its 10.2.2a Backend Bugfix Patch notes.

Dead by Daylight 10.2.2a Patch Notes

The Executioner

  • Decreased the time to activate Rites of Judgment to 0.8s (was 1s)
  • Increased the time to cancel Rites of Judgment to 1.2s (was 1s)
  • Decreased the maximum charges for Rites of Judgment to 8 (was 10)
  • Increased the Rites of Judgment recharge rate to 0.5 charges/s (was 0.25 c/s)
  • Decreased Punishment of the Damned’s initial spawn delay to 0.25s (was 0.267s)
  • Decreased the delay between each segment of Punishment of the Damned to 0.001s (was 0.033s)
  • Increased each segment’s lifetime to 0.3s (was 0.18s)
  • Increased Punishment of the Damned’s maximum range to 16m (was 10m)

Dev note: Overall, our goal is to make The Executioner feel snappier when using his power, while also giving him more range to help promote those awesome plays.

The Good Guy

  • Decreased Hidey-Ho mode’s cooldown to 10s (was 12s)
  • Decreased the time to vault during Slice & Dice to 0.8s (was 1s)
  • Increased the maximum Slice & Dice time to 2s (was 1.8s)

Dev note: We felt that The Good Guy could use a little bit of a boost to his lethality while in power, so we’ve made some adjustments to put him in a better place for the long term.

Backend Tunables move beyond the stream preview

Behaviour introduced Backend Tunables the previous week as a way to make small balance changes without waiting for patch releases. The October community stream had described an initial focus on Killer adjustments and base-game numbers. The system can also be extended to add-ons, perks, and items in the future.

The stream cited The Judgment’s 10.1.2 adjustments as an earlier example of balance work and outlined planned changes to the character’s power cooldown and Zealous duration. For The Executioner, the 10.2.2a notes now specify the faster power handling and increased range previewed during the stream.

Three Mori types will clarify how each one works

The October community stream also outlined a three-part Mori system. All 3 types will use the Attack button, but each will have a different role. A Finisher Mori will kill the final Survivor and end the match with a longer cinematic. Power Moris will be short animations triggered by certain Killer powers, while Short Moris will be triggered by perks and offerings.

Older Killers will keep their current Mori for both Finisher and Short Mori situations for now. Behaviour plans to revisit those animations later, and says the new system will roll out over time.

10.3.0 brings another round of perk changes

Behaviour outlined 6 planned perk adjustments for 10.3.0:

  • Calm Spirit will raise its Action Speed bonus to 25%.
  • Dark Sense will gain a token system that lets players bank activations for a more useful moment.
  • Dark Arrogance will increase its successful basic-attack cooldown effect to 15% and lower its window-vault speed bonus to 15%. Missed basic-attack cooldown will be added to its penalties, which will be reduced to 15%. The successful-hit change reverses the 10.2.0 plan to remove that effect.
  • Ravenous will have its Exposed duration reduced to 70 seconds.
  • Slippery Meat will lower its unhook speed bonus to 75% and raise its Haste bonus to 7%.
  • Whispers will increase its Haste bonus to 7%.

The changes follow 10.2.0’s broad perk pass. In its recap, Behaviour said Killer usage increased for Scourge Hook: Monstrous Shrine, Undone, and Help Wanted, while Dead Man’s Switch, Hex: Thrill of the Hunt, and Hex: Blood Favor saw lower usage. Among Survivor perks, Five Moves Ahead, Spine Chill, and Resilience gained usage, while Windows of Opportunity, Stake Out, and Slippery Meat declined.

Kill rates rose for Help Wanted, Ravenous, and Shattered Hope, and fell for Hex: Thrill of the Hunt, Hex: Blood Favor, and Dissolution. Escape rates increased for Road Life, Sole Survivor, and Spine Chill, while Shoulder the Burden, Stake Out, and Self-Preservation saw lower rates.

MMR now gives Survivor altruism more weight

Since changing MMR calculations in 10.1.0, Behaviour has counted a wider range of actions that advance a match alongside kills and escapes. The main rules remain the same: Killers have individual MMR ratings, Survivors share theirs, matchmaking prioritizes wait times over exact rating matches, and rating gains or losses compare the two sides in each match.

Behaviour found that Survivor altruism was contributing too little MMR, so it increased that value earlier in the week. The studio will keep monitoring the effect on player ratings and matchmaking before making further adjustments.

10.4.0 is planned for January

Behaviour also previewed 10.4.0 for January, with a medium-sized Killer update, several smaller Killer adjustments, and changes to around 15 perks. The planned perk list includes Eruption, Sloppy Butcher, Surge, Hyperfocus, Shoulder the Burden, and Resurgence.

Survivors play in third-person and have the advantage of better situational awareness. The Killer plays in first-person and is more focused on their prey.

The Survivors' goal in each encounter is to escape the Killing Ground without getting caught by the Killer - something that sounds easier than it is, especially when the environment changes every time you play.
