DayZ Badlands Recap Puts Rebuilding, Code Locks, and Nasdara Combat in Focus

Bohemia Interactive also previewed the MP-18 submachine gun and confirmed that code locks will work across every DayZ map.

Bohemia Interactive used its first DayZ Badlands recap to bring several recent development blogs together, with the rebuilding system, code locks, Nasdara’s combat spaces, and the MP-18 firearm taking center stage. The studio published the recap in a Steam announcement and said it plans to use future recaps for answers, clarifications, and smaller pieces of new information.

The team stressed that Badlands remains a work in progress, so the features shown can change before release. The expansion is set in Nasdara, where survivors will have more ways to turn damaged structures into places worth defending.

Rebuilding will support small and large bases

The new rebuilding system will let players restore and barricade select houses in Nasdara. Unlike the existing base-building system, it will allow survivors to choose how much work they want to put into a structure.

A group could restore a three-story house and use it as a squad headquarters. A solo player, meanwhile, could add doors and windows to a smaller building and turn it into a stash house. The standard base-building system will still be available for players who want to build compounds around these structures.

Bohemia Interactive also confirmed that code locks will arrive with the update. The feature has been requested by the community, and it will not be limited to Badlands. Code locks will also be available on the other DayZ maps.

Players can see the code lock working in the official demonstration below.

Nasdara is being built around varied firefights

The recap revisited the environment team’s work on PvP in Nasdara. The open areas are being designed with more variety so they do not become flat, repetitive sniper positions. Even with less vegetation than some DayZ locations, the map will offer natural and man-made cover during firefights.

The earlier Nasdara development blog also covered urban combat and the creation of the map’s “Bazar” assets. An official video gives a closer look at a character moving through a mid-sized bazar.

The MP-18 pairs with the Luger

The recap also included footage of the MP-18, a submachine gun chambered for 9×19mm ammunition. It uses a 32-round drum magazine with an indicator that gives players an approximate idea of how many rounds remain.

The firearm shares its magazines with the Luger pistol, giving the two weapons a practical connection for survivors who want to carry both. The official footage shows the MP-18 in action.

Bohemia Interactive said the next recap will be Dev Blog 6, identified as Week 79. That entry will focus on dust particles and another firearm. The studio did not provide a calendar date for the next blog.
