Dave Bautista Has 2 Months Left in His Kratos Training for God of War

The actor is in his third week of weight training after replacing Ryan Hurst, who left the Amazon series following an on-set bicep injury.

Dave Bautista is only three weeks into weight training for his role as Kratos in Amazon’s upcoming live-action God of War series, and he says he has two more months to reach the physique he wants for the part.

On September 3, Bautista wrote in an Instagram post, “Third week into weight training again. Two more months to get to where I need to be. Like ridin a bike! LFG!”

The progress update follows Bautista’s confirmation as the new Kratos. He took over the role after Ryan Hurst stepped down from the series following an on-set accident that left him with a torn bicep.

Bautista’s imposing physique makes him an obvious visual fit for Kratos, but Sony has also stressed what he brings beyond the character’s size. Asad Qizilbash, Sony’s head of PlayStation Productions and head of product at PlayStation Studios, wrote in a LinkedIn post that Bautista brings “extraordinary presence, depth, and humanity to the role.” Qizilbash added that there is “a lot of excitement across PlayStation productions and Santa Monica Studio” about his casting and the continued effort to bring the world and characters to the screen.

For now, the physical transformation is still underway, with Bautista’s own update leaving two more months of training before he reaches his target. Share your thoughts in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram, Steam, Telegram.
