Crimson Desert’s Charting the Unknown DLC Will Add Romance, Castles and Underwater Exploration
Three character storylines and the Garden of Trials require main-story progress, while diving has no prerequisite.

Crimson Desert’s Charting the Unknown DLC will add underwater exploration, shipbuilding, romance, castle ownership and a new boss gauntlet when it launches on October 29. Some features are available right away, but others require completing story quests or setting up the Greymane Camp. The expansion was first announced for October 15 at $24.99, with its reveal trailer offering an initial look at the project.
Pearl Abyss’ feature overview details the new activities and their prerequisites. The October 29 date follows a two-week delay.
Stories and a larger ocean to explore
Each of the three main characters, Kliff, Oongka and Damiane, will receive a new storyline. Players can start those stories through the Journal menu after completing the main story. A separate ocean-focused storyline opens after finishing the main-story quest “Howling Hill.”
Diving has no special unlock requirement, and all three characters can explore underwater ruins, treasure chests, creatures and mounts. Breath runs down underwater, though, so items or gear such as a diving suit can help extend each trip.
Ship travel requires more preparation. After setting up Greymane Camp at Howling Hill, players can take on a related questline to sail across the Great Ocean of Pywel. Ships can be built by sending comrades on a ship-building dispatch mission at a port or purchased from a Fleet Office manager.
Housing, castles and businesses
The upgraded housing system will let players build a home from the ground up. It becomes available after establishing camp at Howling Hill and completing Luke’s Request under the “Grounds of the Sunrise” Greymanes Faction quest.
Three castles can also be claimed. After completing the main story and the relevant quests, players must liberate each stronghold to unlock a mission to claim it. The castles can then be decorated with furnishings and other objects in their courtyards and interiors.
Business management adds another reason to visit regions across Pywel, including a restaurant in Vellua and a smithy at Zargan Tankworks. Those facilities become accessible from the world map after the required faction quest liberates the region and Greymane Camp has been set up.
Relationships also get a larger role. Kliff, Oongka and Damiane can build trust with some of Pywel’s inhabitants, with closer bonds potentially leading to romance and marriage. Friends may also visit and spend time at Greymane Camp once it reaches a certain upgrade level.
The Garden of Trials follows the main questline
Players who finish the main questline can enter the Garden of Trials, a combat challenge that pits them against previously encountered bosses one after another. Completing it grants special rewards. Pearl Abyss says additional details will arrive in patch notes on the DLC’s release day.
Release times vary by region. Europe gets Charting the Unknown on October 29 at 22:00 UTC or 23:00 CEST. North America gets it that day at 15:00 PT or 18:00 ET, while the Asian release is October 30 at 7:00 KST/JST.
