Cities: Skylines II now has a Steam-only beta branch testing performance and visual changes, including updated building level-of-detail models and changes to DLSS, FSR3, FSR 4, and XeSS 3 support. Colossal Order is asking players to try the branch and share feedback in its Steam announcement.
Nearly every level-of-detail model for base-game buildings has been improved, a change intended to help rendering performance, especially on lower-end hardware. The beta also updates the Coherent UI framework and adds more texturing beneath roads. Changes to Virtual Texturing make the download larger than usual.
The performance test covers a specific set of rendering and visual changes. In a September Q&A, developers described GPU rendering and CPU pathfinding as separate performance challenges.
To opt in, open Cities: Skylines II in Steam, go to Properties, select Game Versions & Betas, and choose performance-test. To return to the live version, select Default Public Version from the same menu. Save games will work between the beta and live versions.
Colossal Order wants feedback on performance and any upscaler issues, along with details about players’ PC setups. Reports can go to the Cities: Skylines II bug-report forum.
If you try the branch, what changes do you notice in rendering or upscaler behavior on your system? For updates on how the performance test develops, stay connected through X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram, Steam, and Telegram.
