Colossal Order’s first expansion for Cities: Skylines II, Bridges & Ports, will bring a large set of new bridge options when it launches on October 29. The developer’s latest dev diary breaks down the 20 bridges coming to the game, from movable drawbridges and lift bridges to double-deck networks that save space and make waterfront planning more flexible. More bridge types give you better control over traffic flow and aesthetics around ports and waterways.
Movable bridges interact with ship traffic, so they change travel times and planning priorities, while double-deck bridges let you stack networks and reduce footprint in tight builds. The Bridges dev diary highlights four main groups: movable bridges, double-deck designs, and a set of regular spans suitable for all road sizes. You can also preview the expansion on the Steam store.
MOVE THAT BRIDGE
Bridges & Ports includes ten movable bridges that pause road traffic to let ships through. These appear as movable sections only when they cross a Narrow Seaway, so you can place them anywhere, not just over water.
- Five drawbridges (bascule bridges) with two swinging sections. Available in Small, Medium and Large Roads menus and as pedestrian-only paths in the Landscaping menu.
- Five vertical-lift bridges. These raise a central section vertically and are a better fit for heavy loads like trains; rail lift bridges appear in railway-related Transportation menus.
HOLD UP, SHIP COMING THROUGH!
Both drawbridges and lift bridges are closed by default. When a ship approaches, traffic is stopped at either end, pedestrians and vehicles clear the span, and the movable section opens. The wider operation window means these bridges introduce longer delays than standard traffic lights, so avoid placing them on your busiest routes if you need high throughput.
DOUBLE THE DECK, DOUBLE THE OPTIONS
There are three double-decked bridges included. Two stack different networks; one combines a two-lane road above a four-lane road (Medium Roads menu), and another is a three-lane-per-deck highway suspension bridge (Highway Roads menu). A separate double-decked lift bridge pairs double train tracks with a four-lane highway for heavy multimodal crossings.
JUST BRIDGING THE GAP
The expansion also adds eight regular bridges across different categories and scales.
- Pedestrian: a covered wooden walkway using the new Wide Pedestrian Path.
- Subway: Double Subway Track Truss Arch Bridge.
- Small Roads: Two-Lane Suspension Bridge with pedestrian barriers.
- Medium Roads: Four-Lane Truss Arch Bridge, Four-Lane Extradosed Bridge (one-way and two-way options), and another stylistic sibling.
- Large Roads: Two new suspension bridges capable of spanning Medium and Wide Seaways, including a Six Lane Suspension Bridge available in one-way and two-way versions.
Overall, the Bridges dev diary shows Colossal Order focused on giving players both functional choices and visual variety for waterfront planning. The developer will follow up with a Ports dev diary on October 21 that details ports, offshore oil, industrial fishing and ferries.
