CD Projekt, known for its acclaimed The Witcher and Cyberpunk franchises, has revealed a partnership with Scopely, aiming to develop a game based on one of its intellectual properties. The announcement was made during CD Projekt’s earnings call this past Tuesday, though specifics surrounding the project and the selected IP remain undisclosed.
This collaboration marks an interesting pairing, as CD Projekt is recognized as an independent developer based in Poland, while Scopely stands tall among mobile gaming developers globally. Notably, Scopely recently confirmed plans to acquire Niantic, the studio renowned for creating Pokemon GO. This acquisition deal is reportedly valued at $3.5 billion and will usher Niantic leaders Kei Kawai and Ed Wu into Scopely’s fold to steer upcoming projects.
The influx of talent from Niantic may help bring fresh ideas to the table; currently, Niantic oversees several successful titles with over 30 million monthly active users across games like Pikmin Bloom, Monster Hunter Now, and more.
The Witcher 4. The development team comprises over 400 members actively contributing to what has been described as complete production stage work. Following the debut trailer showcased at The Game Awards, discussions around gameplay changes have stirred some conversation within the community. Players expressed mixed reactions regarding Ciri’s role as the protagonist instead of Geralt.
A representative from CD Projekt remarked last year: The best thing that we can do, and I think this is our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do many interesting things. Such shifts could lead to fresh narrative opportunities within this favorite universe.
