Carenado’s CT206 Models Tire Deformation in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
Creative Director Mauricio Illanes says the team focused on the aircraft's ramp posture, tire deformation, and movement through water.

Carenado’s CT206 makes its weight visible even while parked. The model includes tire deformation beneath the aircraft, along with a slight nose-high, tail-low posture that reflects how its nose gear can settle over time. Creative Director and co-founder Mauricio Illanes discussed those details in an interview in the October 8 briefing.
Illanes says Carenado bases its visual work on close observation rather than exact blueprint measurements beyond the general dimensions in aircraft manuals. The team pays attention to how a plane sits on the ground, brakes, taxis, and moves in flight, along with smaller touches such as dirt buildup, upholstery texture, and subtle vibration. Illanes, a real-world pilot who has flown many of the aircraft Carenado models, says that familiarity informs how the team represents both appearance and behavior.
The CT206’s five configurations and $22.99 Marketplace price give those details a range of settings, from passenger and cargo flights to skydiving, amphibious operations, and ski flying. Illanes singled out the amphibious version’s water effects and movement through water, and said the aircraft’s varied roles make it a natural fit for Career Mode.
Illanes has worked in flight-simulation add-on development for a little over 25 years with his partner Fernando. He traces his interest in aviation to childhood flights with his grandfather, when he would stay behind to observe, draw, and paint aircraft. That attention to an airplane’s character carries through to details as small as how its tires meet the ramp.
