Borderlands: Dead ECHOs sends Junie back to the Jakobs Estate in Episode 9, turning the podcast’s trip through Eden-6 into a family homecoming with plenty of old discomfort waiting inside. Watts is there too, and his attempt to behave like a calm adult may be the least believable part of the visit.
Gearbox’s Steam announcement for Episode 9 places the pair inside the grand Jakobs Estate, where Junie reconnects with the two relatives she still considers worth seeing. Her return brings past troubles back to the surface, while Watts maintains an impressively questionable grip on his emotions.
Junie’s Eden-6 homecoming gets uncomfortable
After Episode 8’s flight toward Eden-6, Watts and Junie have reached the next stop in their increasingly dangerous journey. The swamp world supplies its usual unpleasant atmosphere, but Episode 9 puts the focus on Junie’s family history and the strain it places on the pair’s partnership.
Borderlands: Dead ECHOs is Gearbox’s first scripted narrative podcast. The limited series follows Watts, a disenchanted DAHL ECHO Operator who sells secrets from undeliverable ECHO logs, and Junie, the stranger who pushes his small operation toward a Robin Hood-style scheme. Their choices have drawn attention from mercenaries, outlaws, and DAHL’s corporate hit squad, led by rogue executive Vivian Proctor.
