Blade and Magik were the beta’s most-picked Marvel Tōkon fighters

A first-day snapshot of high-ranked matches also put Iron Man, Magneto, and Black Panther near the top of the roster.

The recent MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls open beta gave players access to 16 of the game’s 20 launch characters, and early usage data already showed which heroes were getting the most attention. Blade and Magik shared the top spot in a snapshot taken from high-ranked matches.

The data came from the first 24 hours of the beta and covered matches at Vibranium rank and above. A player-created breakdown found Iron Man, Magneto, and Black Panther immediately behind Blade and Magik, while Danger sat at the bottom of the overall results.

Here is the full picture by team position:

  • Leader picks: Magik, Black Panther, Blade, Doom, and Spider-Man
  • Assist picks: Iron Man, Magneto, Blade, and Magik

That split gives a little more context than the overall ranking. Magik was the most common character in the starting Leader slot, while Iron Man led the Assist choices. Blade and Magik still appeared in both groups, showing how often high-ranked players were building teams around them.

The figures only represent a short period of testing, so they do not establish what the launch metagame will look like. Blade had already drawn calls for balance changes during the beta, but popularity and strength are not always the same thing. High-ranked players may also favor characters for reasons that do not apply as strongly lower on the ladder.

Green Goblin was one character who seemed to receive less attention than expected despite players sharing combo discoveries and praising his apparent strength. Captain America also stood out as a possible exception. Since he is the starting character, it would be interesting to see how often players selected him outside the highest ranks.

The beta has now ended, with PC and PS5 players getting an early look at the 4v4 fighter ahead of its August 6, 2026 launch. The roster will grow during the first year as well, beginning with Phoenix Cyclops as the first of four planned DLC characters, according to PlayStation’s announcement.

The character usage snapshot is still only an early read, but Blade and Magik clearly made a strong first impression on the players competing at the top of the beta.
