Black Ops 7 won’t carry over Black Ops 6 skins, operators, or weapons

Activision says BO7 will start fresh, some items stay in Warzone and consumables carry over.

Activision has reversed a decision that would have moved Black Ops 6 cosmetics and weapons into Black Ops 7. Instead, Black Ops 7 will start fresh – items like Operators, skins, and guns from BO6 won’t carry over, though some consumables and Warzone will keep content available.

Initially, developers planned for progress and cosmetics to transfer from Black Ops 6 into Black Ops 7, so players would retain their hard-earned items. That plan has been reversed after players pushed back on the direction the franchise was taking.

Some folks liked the crossover approach in BO6, which put unexpected things into the game, from Beavis and Butt-Head to American Dad tie-ins. Others said they preferred a more grounded tone and were bothered by the sillier outfits, such as the weed-lizard skin that some players complained about in BO6, opinions were loud and clear.

The team wrote plainly: “Operators, Operator Skins, and Weapons from Black Ops 6 will no longer carry forward into Black Ops 7,” in a community update. That statement summed up the change: BO7 is being treated as its own entry rather than a continuation of BO6’s cosmetic catalogue.

The post adds that Warzone will keep the BO6 skins, so players who want to keep showing off their cosmetics can still do that through the Battle Royale. Consumables like Double XP tokens and Gobblegums are also being handled differently and will carry over.

Developers said feedback about tone and the feel of Call of Duty mattered here. They wrote that some players felt the series had drifted from a more intense, grounded vibe, and that message resonated with the team. As a result, the team is aiming to give BO7 a more classic CoD feel.

They also mentioned renewed attention to anti-cheat, and that more details on Zombies, Multiplayer, and Campaign will be revealed when BO7 launches in November. If you want broader context on Call of Duty’s 2025 plans, there’s an overview of the year’s details here.

Was Black Ops 6 too loud for the series? Some players thought so, and the team listened. If you liked BO6’s crossovers, you can still play Warzone to keep those items in use, kinda a consolation, but a real one.

We’re hanging out on X and Bluesky — come say hi.
