Blizzard appears to have nudged Horadric Strongrooms back toward usefulness in Diablo 4 Season 11, with reported changes to loot scaling, gold rewards, and drop rates that could make those treasure rooms worth the detour again. Strongrooms earned a reputation as time sinks during Season 10, with many players saying they were a worse trade than the Chaos Rifts they replaced. The community backlash was loud enough that some players asked for Chaos Rifts to remain instead of Strongrooms; see the article “Diablo 4 players want Season 10 Chaos Rifts to stick around, not Horadric Strongrooms” for more on that sentiment.
The Season 11 adjustments are pretty straightforward. Loot quality in Strongrooms should now scale more sensibly with Torment level and with the Strongroom tier. Gold payouts are increased and scale with difficulty. The chance to find a Nightmare Escalation Sigil from Strongrooms has been boosted, too. At the same time, Strongrooms will be rarer inside Nightmare Dungeons, so you should expect fewer but more meaningful finds.
Those are small but practical changes. If the numbers in Season 11 actually land where players hope, Strongrooms could become an attractive risk-reward option instead of the shrug-and-skip content they were in Season 10. It also ties into Blizzard’s broader loot and renown work, which the studio has previously said it plans to address on the PTR and beyond; our earlier coverage “Diablo 4’s Next PTR Will Tackle Loot, Combat and Renown, Blizzard Says” goes into that roadmap.
One obvious question is how this will shift endgame routing. Making Strongrooms rarer reduces the “spam for a drop” style of gameplay. Better scaling rewards make the rooms more appealing to players running high Torment, which could tilt some speedfarm routes toward quality over quantity. Expect players to test optimal routes fast and loudly, and Blizzard to iterate if certain builds abuse the new math.
Community reaction will tell the rest of the story. If Strongrooms start dropping Nightmare Escalation Sigils at a meaningful rate and the gold feels worth the time, Season 11 might finally have turned a corner for these rooms. If not, you can bet the forums and subreddit will remind Blizzard in no uncertain terms.
I would rather keep Chaos Rifts than Horadric Strongrooms
