Apex Legends will move its PC anti-cheat system to EA Javelin Anticheat on September 29, 2026, replacing Easy Anti-Cheat after a long partnership with Epic Games. The Apex Legends team detailed the change in its September 24 Steam announcement.
EA Javelin Anticheat is designed to detect and prevent cheating while giving EA’s anti-cheat teams more visibility into emerging threats and more flexibility to update their detections. The announcement says the system has prevented millions of cheating attempts on other EA titles while maintaining an accuracy rate above 99%.
PC players will be migrated after one update
When the change goes live on September 29, PC players will be prompted to download a game update. After the installation finishes, launching Apex Legends will automatically migrate the game to EA Javelin Anticheat.
Players will not need to make a BIOS change for this rollout. EA noted that Apex Legends will not require Secure Boot at this time, unlike some other EA games that use a component requiring players to enable it through their PC’s BIOS settings.
Console anti-cheat work will continue separately
The September 29 migration covers the core PC protection layer. Console protection will continue through specialized data models and server-side detection methods aimed at console-specific cheats, with EA bringing its anti-cheat engineering, telemetry, and data capabilities together in-house.
The change follows the September 15 Split 2 patch, which added detection systems for unauthorized controller hardware and software across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2. EA Javelin Anticheat will now take over the main PC anti-cheat role as the team continues expanding its broader enforcement efforts.
