Alien Deathstorm Trailer Reveals a Storm-Lashed Colony and Spring 2027 Launch Window

Rebellion's Engineer must repair a failing fission reactor while facing four alien types and creatures that adapt to the player's approach.

Alien Deathstorm will send players into a mining colony cut off from Earth, where a planet-rending storm and intelligent alien packs turn a rescue mission into a fight for survival. Rebellion’s new trailer also confirms that the action-horror FPS will launch on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC in Spring 2027, with day-one availability on Game Pass.

The game puts players in the role of an Engineer with basic combat training rather than a heavily armed super soldier. Rebellion Head of Design Ben Fisher outlined the game’s main systems and threats in Xbox’s Gamescom breakdown.

The Reactor mission uses repair work as its pressure point

The trailer draws from a midgame mission called the Reactor. Players must enter a malfunctioning fission reactor and repair several faults to bring the facility back online. Reaching those repair points means passing through an underground substation and a reactor flare stack, both of which contain exposed terrain, ambushes, and plenty of opportunities for the aliens to ruin an otherwise sensible plan.

Mission objectives are presented through the Engineer’s digital assistant, Squire. Rather than simply following a rigid checklist, players will need to diagnose the situation and decide how to handle each problem. The structure supports a slower pace when conditions allow, followed by sudden bursts of panic once an alien begins hunting.

The mega-storm makes the colony dangerous indoors and out

Alien Deathstorm’s setting is not merely a backdrop for the firefights. The mega-storm is tearing apart the mining colony, destroying routes and filling the outside world with wreckage. Moving through the damaged facility will be part of the challenge, since the storm remains an escalating threat throughout the mission.

Going indoors will not provide much relief. The aliens can stalk players through dark interiors and use the environment to attack from unexpected angles. The result is a setting where open ground brings the storm and enclosed spaces bring creatures that are more difficult to spot before they strike.

Four alien types are confirmed for the Gamescom reveal

Rebellion has confirmed four alien types for the Gamescom presentation. Soldiers, Scuttlers, Blister Scuttlers, and Scuttler Swarms each bring different dangers to the colony, and the studio says additional alien types will be revealed in the coming months.

These creatures are designed to react to the situation rather than attack in exactly the same way every time. They hunt in packs, adapt to the environment, and change their behavior based on how players approach a scenario. Rebellion is aiming for encounters that can feel different from one playthrough to the next, even when the broader mission remains familiar.

Weapons and repair tools keep the Engineer alive

The trailer shows the Engineer using a pistol, SMG, and shotgun. More weapons are planned before launch, while blueprints found during play can unlock upgrades for optics, stocks, barrels, and magazines. Those parts can then be 3D printed and added to the player’s weapons.

The Engineer’s hammer is useful when ammunition is running low or an alien gets too close. It can repair equipment inside the Reactor and also serve as a melee weapon, with flying Scuttlers called out as one enemy it can handle particularly well. A Geiger Scanner, grenades, flares, and health injectors round out the survival tools.

Rebellion is drawing on its work with the Sniper Elite and Zombie Army franchises for the game’s gunplay. Still, the Engineer’s limited training keeps the focus on survival rather than power fantasy. Every encounter will ask players to balance firepower, repairs, movement, and the risk of attracting more creatures.

Alien Deathstorm has a Spring 2027 launch window

Alien Deathstorm will launch on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC in Spring 2027. The game will also be available on Game Pass from day one, and its Xbox Store page is already available for wishlisting. Rebellion has not announced a more specific release date yet.
