Sandbox Interactive is warning Albion Online players that fake giveaways and offers for bots or hacks can lead to stolen account credentials and personal information. The developer’s Steam account-security reminder says scammers promote these offers in game chat, on Discord, and through streaming services.
Some pitches promise free Gold, Silver, or items for joining a Discord server or another service. Others advertise giveaways, money-making schemes, or trials for bots, radar tools, and similar software. The sites may copy the official login page and ask players to sign in, enter personal details, or download a program. AlbionOnline.com is the game’s only official website, so check the address before entering account information.
Fake giveaway broadcasts can also appear on Twitch and other streaming platforms. They often come from new accounts showing prerecorded or rebroadcast content, with little description beyond a link to the supposed giveaway.
Steps to protect your account
- Check a website’s address before signing in. Do not enter your credentials or personal information on third-party giveaway sites, and do not download software they promote.
- Use a strong, unique password for Albion Online. Keep your email password different, and turn on two-factor authentication through your email provider.
- Review the verified devices in your account settings and deauthorize any you do not recognize or no longer use.
- If someone advertises a suspicious site in game chat, right-click their name and use the in-game report tool. Explain that the activity involves phishing or advertising bots, hacks, or real-money trading.
- If you think your account has been compromised, contact [email protected] immediately for help securing and reclaiming it.
The reminder also restates the game’s rules on real-money transactions. Its Terms and Conditions prohibit selling, buying, renting, leasing, offering, accepting, disseminating, or copying virtual benefits, including virtual currency, unless the terms or game rules expressly allow it. Promises of in-game rewards from phishing schemes violate the rules, and accounts involved in scams or in offering or accepting those rewards can be banned. Sandbox Interactive says it bans accounts involved in such activity when it finds them.
