It’s pretty clear, technology doesn’t stand still. And with the changing times, even the giants in the gaming world are making shifts. EA recently made a clear statement on this when they declared the termination of support for three of their iconic games on older Windows platforms.
EA, a behemoth in the video gaming industry, has officially shared that Battlefield 1, Battlefield 5, and Star Wars Battlefront 2 will no longer receive service for players using Windows 7, 8, and 8.1. This move was communicated via the Battlefield 1 forums. So, if you’re a dedicated fan of any of these games and are still running them on these older versions of Windows, it’s high time you consider an upgrade.
Why this sudden change? Well, it’s not exactly out of the blue. EA’s choice seems rooted in a practical reason. Microsoft, the creator of the Windows OS, had already drawn the curtains on support for Windows 7 in January 2020 and did the same for Windows 8.1 three years later, in January 2023. Given that these operating systems no longer receive security updates and technical support, it makes sense for EA to follow suit.
To put it simply, if you continue to play Battlefield 1, Battlefield 5, or Star Wars Battlefront 2 on any of the older Windows versions post-November 30th, 2023, you’re on your own. EA has stressed that they can’t assure the functionality of these titles on these OSs after the said date.
Change is inevitable, especially in the fast-paced world of technology. While it’s always a bit tough to let go of the familiar, these shifts often open doors to bigger and better experiences. So, if you’re a loyal fan of these games, perhaps it’s a good nudge to move forward and dive into the enhanced capabilities of the latest Windows systems. The games are waiting for you, just with some added flair and features.
