Cat-Astrophy Turns Each Expedition Into a Build Experiment

Modules, directional attacks, route choices, and permanent upgrades all help shape Polo's runs.

Cat-Astrophy makes every expedition a chance to rethink Polo’s build. Modules can change abilities and stats, while attack direction, accumulating fatigue, and planet routes call for adjustments as a run unfolds. An Xbox Wire feature on the game’s expedition design outlines how those systems work together.

Rather than choosing a complete setup before setting out, players shape a build from the modules they find and keep. Some support close-range attacks, while others lean toward mobility or defense. Modules can also evolve or interact, so a combination may change how Polo moves through a room as well as how he fights.

Attack direction and fatigue change the rhythm of combat

The Star Cursor directs Polo’s attacks, which can be aimed forward, upward, or downward. Each direction has different variants, and modules can add synergies to those strikes. Chaining attacks builds fatigue, so repeating the same move has a cost. Players have to judge when to press an advantage and when to pause before fatigue makes the next exchange harder to manage.

Expedition planning reaches beyond combat, too. From the ship hub, players choose the order of planets, each with its own mechanics, enemies, and rewards. Rooms can bring fights, parkour, events, shops, or minibosses, and detours offer a chance to pursue extra rewards. A route that suits an offensive setup may call for a different approach when Polo’s build favors survival or mobility.

Polo moves through a dark planet area toward a glowing star marker.

Death ends the expedition, but not all progress. Star Fragments unlock permanent upgrades, options, and routes for future runs. Memory fragments gradually reveal Polo’s past and the truth behind his abduction, giving each attempt a story thread alongside its temporary build. Cat-Astrophy is available now on Xbox, Steam, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation.
