Age of Wonders 4’s Silver Seas Expansion Brings Pirate Cities and Sharkkin to the Water
The Mercantile Culture can build floating fortresses, with the Cartel and Barony offering different approaches to piracy.

Age of Wonders 4 has taken its empire building out to sea with The Silver Seas, an expansion that adds pirate cities, aquatic peoples and new enemies to fight. Released on November 3, it gives players a way to build fortified settlements on the water rather than treating the sea as a route between territories.
The expansion begins the strategy game’s fourth set of expansions. Triumph Studios says Age of Wonders 4 is entering its fourth year and has become the franchise’s longest-running game in terms of ongoing support.
Floating cities and pirate empires
The new Mercantile Culture can establish cities at sea and turn them into floating fortresses. Its pirate-themed options take different approaches to growing an empire. The Cartel relies on smuggling and secrecy, while the Barony uses its wealth to place bounties on enemies and import supplies.
Triumph said in its expansion announcement that players had requested more seafaring gameplay since launch. Pirate Dwellings and themed stories accompany the new culture, along with sea creatures to battle and magic based on water and ice.
Sharkkin and Aqualon join the roster
Players can also create their people using the Sharkkin and Aqualon forms. Both came from community feedback, though by different routes. Requests for sharks came up repeatedly when Triumph asked what kinds of people players wanted, while the Aqualon grew out of concept art shared during development of the Eldritch Realms expansion.

Triumph also made a sea shanty for the expansion. It is a fitting accompaniment for a release built around the community’s appetite for pirates and more life beneath the waves.
