Destiny 2’s Unvaulting Could Begin Production in February 2027, With a 12-Month Port Ahead

The first pass is planned to restore the Red War, Forsaken, Curse of Osiris, and Warmind campaigns, their strikes, raids, and raid lairs, plus Menagerie with reprised rewards.

Destiny 2’s vaulted content remains in pre-production, and Bungie estimates the full porting phase will take about 12 months. Its progress tracker places production in February 2027 and leaves the release date TBD, according to the studio’s October 2026 Community Update. Bungie’s September studio update had already framed vaulted-content restoration as the first step in Destiny 2’s recovery, while also outlining a broader new direction for Marathon.

What Destiny 2’s first restoration pass includes

The first pass is planned to restore the Red War, Forsaken, Curse of Osiris, and Warmind campaigns for all players, along with strikes, raids, and raid lairs from those releases. Bungie also intends to bring back the Menagerie activity with reprised rewards.

Other content is still under consideration as a stretch goal for launch or a later release. That work could include free-roam destinations and activities such as public events, Lost Sectors, and Escalation Protocol; seasonal activities from Sundial in Season 9 through The Coil in Season 23; updates to raid and raid-lair weapons; and PvP maps.

Bungie said it currently has no path to update the New Light experience, seasonal story missions, the Kell’s Grave Gambit map, or seasonal hubs such as the Eliksni Quarter. The studio cited technical or strategic reasons for leaving those items outside its present plans.

The restoration is still in pre-production

Bungie received its initial greenlight to scope the work in June 2026, then validated its assumptions in September. The current proof-of-work stage is meant to check that the team can port legacy content while meeting its quality bar. Bungie expects this phase to last until around January or February 2027, before the estimated 12-month production period.

Bungie’s next Destiny plans remain in development

Bungie also outlined two planned tracks beyond the unvaulting work. Destiny 2 “Celebration” is meant to bring new updates beyond Monument of Triumph, while “Destiny Legacy” aims to make the broader Destiny experience available where players play today. The studio plans to share new progress bars for both in February 2027. A third project remains redacted, with no timeline provided.

Those plans are still being validated, not announced releases. Bungie said players should not expect a Destiny announcement at The Game Awards this year or a surprise logo reveal.

The new Community Update blog will not run weekly. Bungie says it will use the format for occasional studio news, while its next Marathon Dev Insight is planned for early December. The studio also expects to discuss Marathon again in November as it prepares for Symbiosis and the March Update, and is considering podcasts, livestreams, and AMAs as other ways to talk with players.
