Minecraft is now available on Nintendo Switch 2, bringing the game’s Vibrant Visuals upgrade and an updated Super Mario Mash-Up Pack to the system. Mojang’s launch announcement also details an upgrade window for existing Switch owners, running from Oct. 27, 2026, at 9 a.m. PT through Jan. 31, 2027, at 9 a.m. PT.
Vibrant Visuals adds directional lighting, volumetric fog, dynamic shadows, and other visual changes. Supported Marketplace content can use the upgrade too, though it is unavailable in split-screen and in certain Marketplace worlds and content.
The Nintendo-exclusive Super Mario Mash-Up Pack has also been updated for Vibrant Visuals. It includes locations inspired by the Mario series, 15 tracks, and 40 player skins. Every digital edition includes the pack, whether players choose Standard Edition, Deluxe Collection, or Ultimate Collection.
Deluxe and Ultimate include extra content such as add-ons and Minecoins. Minecoins included with the editions, as well as those purchased in Minecraft on a Nintendo Switch device, must be used within the Nintendo ecosystem. A physical Standard Edition is also planned for retail.
Switch owners have until Jan. 31 to upgrade
Owners of a digital Nintendo Switch copy can upgrade to the digital Switch 2 Standard Edition for free in most regions. In Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand, the upgrade costs 100 JPY, 30 NTD, and 25 THB, respectively. Digital owners can also choose a discounted Deluxe Collection or Ultimate Collection through Nintendo eShop.
Players with digital or physical Switch copies can launch Minecraft for Nintendo Switch on Switch 2 during the offer window to receive an in-game message with a discounted upgrade link for the digital Ultimate Collection. Existing Switch worlds can carry over, letting players continue where they left off.
