Final Fantasy Resonance reached a peak of 42,885 concurrent Steam players on October 25, giving it the highest peak for a single-player Final Fantasy game on the platform. It passed Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, whose peak was 40,564 players.
The comparison comes with a release-timing difference. Resonance launched on PC and consoles at the same time, while Rebirth reached PC almost a year after its PS5 debut. That gave the two games different opportunities to draw players to Steam at launch.
Resonance first reached 27,933 concurrent players on its opening day, placing it ahead of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, which peaked at 27,390. The gap was 543 players. Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake remains ahead of Resonance among the compared Square Enix turn-based RPGs, with a 45,357-player peak from its 2024 launch.
The single-player record does not cover every game in the series. Final Fantasy XIV, the franchise’s MMO, reached 95,150 concurrent Steam players around the release of Endwalker. Its player count offers a wider franchise comparison, though it is a different kind of game from Resonance and Rebirth.
Resonance is the first Final Fantasy game made in Square Enix’s HD-2D style. It adapts the mobile RPG Final Fantasy Brave Exvius into a console role-playing game.
