FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE Is Now Available on Xbox With a Free Chapter Demo

Xbox Play Anywhere covers both Series X|S and PC, and demo progress carries into the full game after purchase.

FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE is now available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC. Its October 22 launch falls on the same date as its scheduled PS5 release. Xbox Play Anywhere gives players access on console and PC at no extra cost, while a free demo includes the full first chapter and carries progress into the game after purchase.

The RPG adapts the story of FINAL FANTASY BRAVE EXVIUS, a free-to-play mobile game that ran from 2015 to 2025. Rather than simply porting it, Square Enix and LANCARSE rebuilt its world, combat, and progression as a single-player, single-purchase game. Rain and Lasswell, knights of Grandshelt, set out with Fina to stop the Sworn Six from destroying the elemental Crystals.

It is also the first FINAL FANTASY entry to use Square Enix’s HD-2D style, blending pixel-art characters with 3D environments, cinematic camera work, dynamic lighting, and depth of field.

Combat returns to a fully turn-based format, with a timeline showing when allies and enemies will act. Attacks target both health and stagger gauges. Breaking an enemy’s stagger gauge removes its action and grants the attacker a bonus move, while staggering every surviving foe gives the whole party another action.

Visions let players equip familiar heroes such as Cloud, Terra, and Zidane, adding their abilities to a character’s toolkit. Fighting with a Vision builds mastery and unlocks more skills, giving the traditional turn-based system room for party customization. The Vision system also includes passive bonuses and abilities that can be mixed into a character’s build.

Discovered enemy weaknesses and resistances remain visible, and players can speed up battles, skip summon cutscenes, and fast-travel to visited locations outside dungeons.
