Escape From Tarkov “Following the Bread Crumbs” Quest Guide
Eliminate 20 targets in The Lab to unlock the room searches, then recover the secured tape and bring it to Lightkeeper.
Start by eliminating 20 targets in The Lab, which unlocks the two room-search objectives. After that, search the first-floor rooms and recover the secured tape from the second-floor conference room.
Requirements and objectives
The quest unlocks 10 hours after completing Provocation.
- Eliminate any 20 targets in The Lab.
- Search the weapon testing area in The Lab.
- Search the human experiment room in The Lab.
- Obtain the secured tape from the manager’s office in The Lab.
- Bring the tape to Lightkeeper.
The two search objectives become available after the elimination objective is complete.

The secured tape is marked found in raid and is also a quest item. It can be found only while the quest is active, moves to your quest-item inventory when picked up, and is lost if you fail to extract with it.
How to complete Following the Bread Crumbs
1. Eliminate 20 targets in The Lab
Any 20 targets count. Finish this objective first, because the weapon-testing and human-experiment searches only appear afterward.
2. Search the first-floor rooms
Both destinations are on the first level. In the main work area O11, look for the small locked weapon-testing room on the eastern side, beside the warehouse side of the floor. Open it with the weapon testing area key. For the human experiment objective, go to G12 on the southern side of the main work area, west of the server rooms, and use the Black keycard. Continue into the glassed inner room for the search to register.
3. Search the second-floor conference room for the tape
Go up to the glass-fronted manager/conference suite above the central work area, between the dome and robot areas. The manager’s locked section is O21. Search the suite’s reception desk and oval meeting table as well as the locked section if you have the manager’s key. The secured tape has 8 possible locations:
- On the reception desk, tucked into a red or blue folder. These are two possible spawns.
- On the oval table beside the blue folder.
- On the back-left part of the oval table, beside the laptop.
- On the floor beneath the back-right side of the table.
- In the locked manager’s area, on a lounge chair.
- In the locked manager’s area, between the desktop and drawers of the desk with one screen.
- In the locked manager’s area, between the desktop and drawers of the desk with two screens.
The manager’s office room key is only needed for the three spawns inside the locked area, so it is not essential to completing the quest. Once you pick up the tape, extract successfully and bring it to Lightkeeper.
