Escape from Tarkov Reveals an Optional GPS Tool for Extracts
Nikita Buyanov's Oct. 12 reveal showed a special-slot item with an extraction marker and distance reading.

Escape from Tarkov is getting an optional GPS tool intended to help newer players learn its maps. On Oct. 12, Battlestate Games head Nikita Buyanov revealed an interface showing an arrow toward an extraction point labeled EXFIL04, with a distance reading of 151 meters.

Buyanov described it as a simple GPS function. The tool is planned for a special slot, alongside items such as the compass and rangefinder, and players will be able to use it at will rather than having it forced on them.
Battlestate had teased the GPS several months earlier alongside other features intended to make Tarkov more welcoming to new players. The reveal drew opposing reactions. Some players argued that a basic GPS suits the game’s modern setting and could help newcomers learn the maps. Others objected to assistance they feel could soften the game’s demanding approach.
The reveal did not explain how players will get the item or whether its availability will depend on the map or character level.
Would an optional extraction marker help new players without taking away from Tarkov’s challenge? For more on how Battlestate handles accessibility features, stay connected on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram, Steam, and Telegram.
