Jagex Pulled RuneScape’s Dragon Slayer II Trailer After AI Concerns
Jagex says an outside partner promised to avoid generative AI, and the company is overhauling its review process while commissioning community creators to help tell the quest's story.

Jagex removed the Dragon Slayer II trailer after players flagged visual details that raised concerns about generative AI. The character’s apparent sixth finger was one issue, while its armored boots also appeared to have sneaker-like soles.
Old School RuneScape moderator Alec “Mod Sween” Sween said a trusted outside partner had explicitly promised not to use generative AI. Jagex took the trailer down while investigating how it passed review, and Sween acknowledged that the sixth finger was difficult to explain away in an apology to players. Jagex described the incident as a failure in its own review process, not a change in its position on generative AI.
That position predates the trailer. In January 2026, product SVP James Dobrowski told GamesIndustry that Jagex would not use generative AI in material players experience through its games, including visuals and audio.
The trailer is the second recent AI concern Jagex has connected to a trusted partner. On September 30, 100 Thieves acknowledged that AI appeared in designs for its RuneScape collaboration tied to RuneFest, and said its own review had missed it.
We messed up.
Our collaboration with RuneScape is a passion project that brought together people from across 100 Thieves to create a celebration of OSRS and RuneFest.
Last night, we teased one of our concepts – one we were particularly excited about. The design clearly had AI…

Sween said the two incidents pointed to a problem with Jagex’s own processes. The company is overhauling its review process after RuneFest and plans to work with and commission community creators to tell Dragon Slayer II’s story. Sween also acknowledged that the team should have caught the problems rather than placing the blame solely on its outside partner.
