Battlefield 6 Season 5 Could Rework REDSEC Classes and Combat
EA is considering detailed class-path changes, vehicle adjustments, and further gunplay work for the shooter's second year.

Battlefield 6 Season 5 could bring a broad combat pass to Battlefield 6 and REDSEC, with vehicle adjustments, changes to anti-air systems, and a detailed reshuffle of REDSEC class perks. EA laid out the ideas in a new Steam update, but stressed that the features are still under review and may change, arrive later, or be cut.
EA’s first Season 5 preview had already covered three Las Vegas maps and proposed REDSEC playlist changes. This update focuses on the combat work still being evaluated. October also marks Battlefield 6’s first anniversary. Over the past year, EA has added four seasons, brought back Railway to Golmud and Wake Island, and introduced naval warfare. The studio also cited faster progression, ongoing balance work across land, air, and naval combat, and Aim Assist tuning closer to the Open Beta.
EA previously described changes to recoil and body-damage multipliers in its Battlefield Combat – Gunplay update. Those adjustments aimed to give close-range firefights and Time-To-Kill more weight while emphasizing precision at longer ranges and refining each sniper rifle’s “Sweet Spot.”
Vehicle and anti-air changes are under review
EA is considering changes to vehicle health regeneration and damage that are meant to reward infantry players for positioning and flanking. The anti-air adjustments would make mobile AA cannons more effective against aircraft. Laser designators would also require users to track targets more consistently to maintain a lock.
A separate attachment-tuning pass is intended to widen weapon choices, alongside animation polish for certain weapons, gadgets, and poses. The vehicle changes EA outlined include:
- Reducing the Little Bird’s splash damage against infantry.
- Increasing the rate of fire for secondary turrets while making them overheat sooner.
- Tuning Main Battle Tank munitions to work better against their intended targets.
- Balancing missiles across the board so they remain useful without becoming too powerful.
- Giving air-vehicle resupply pads separate cooldowns by vehicle class. A jet, for example, could resupply after a helicopter without waiting on a shared timer.
REDSEC adds matchmaking and drop options
For Battle Royale, EA is looking at more accurate ranked skill bands and a reconnect feature that would let players return to an ongoing match after a crash or unexpected disconnection. Casual Battle Royale may also get recommended drop zones that guide newer players toward points of interest and nearby loot while steering them away from immediate squad fights. Armor application is also planned to become much faster.
Several alternate training paths and starting gadgets would change. The Drone Specialist and Hazmat Breacher paths would be removed. Engineers would start with the guided function for the Aim-Guided Launcher unlocked. Support’s Supply Bag and Smoke Launcher would move into the loot pool, replaced in the class loadout by Supply Pouches and Deployable Cover. Recon’s Drone would also move to the loot pool, with the Handheld Jammer taking its place.
Class Training Paths are also being rebalanced. EA’s current proposals give each class a different mix of survival, support, and combat perks.
Assault
- Level 1: Reduce the movement-speed penalty for firing while moving.
- Level 2: Passive health regeneration triggers 50% faster, healing improves by 50%, and revive-sickness recovery time falls by 50%.
- Level 3: High Explosive Launcher blasts create five fused submunitions.
- Level 4: Class-gadget resupply increases by 10% with each improvement, but resets upon death.
Engineer
- Level 1: Increase resistance to explosive damage by 33%.
- Level 2: Make armor replating 33% faster.
- Level 3: Aim-Guided Launcher hits immobilize vehicles for five seconds.
- Level 4: Class-gadget resupply increases by 10% with each improvement, but resets upon death.
Support
- Level 1: Improve weapon control when firing from mounted positions.
- Level 2: Drag downed soldiers 20% faster and revive them 2.5 seconds sooner. Sprint 10% faster when under heavy fire.
- Level 3: Reviving a teammate applies an armor plate. Deployable Cover also produces a lootable armor plate.
- Level 4: Class-gadget resupply increases by 10% with each improvement, but resets upon death.
Recon
- Level 1: Damage dealt to enemies spots them on the battlefield and minimap.
- Level 2: Downing an enemy spots others within 25 meters for five seconds.
- Level 3: The Handheld Jammer disrupts Redeploy Points and Mobile Redeploys in range, and reveals enemies who activated a redeploy device.
- Level 4: Class-gadget resupply increases by 10% with each improvement, but resets upon death.
Weapon changes set new damage thresholds against armor
EA also flagged coming balance adjustments for the KTS100 Mk8, SCW-10, SVDM, SG553R, and KV9. The proposed armor changes add one bullet to kill for several weapon groups at specified distances:
- 10mm and 9mm PDWs past 9 meters.
- .300BLK Carbines, 7.62x39mm PDWs, 7.62x39mm Carbines, and 7.62x39mm ARs within 31 meters.
- 5.56x45mm ARs and LMGs, plus 5.45x39mm ARs and LMGs, past 46 meters.
- 7.62mm DMRs past 21 meters. These DMRs would also lose their improved headshot damage against downed enemies.
Subclass gadgets would join the loot pool as well, including the Smoke Launcher, Supply Bag, Defibrillator, Breaching Dart, and Anti-Drone Gun. EA said it plans to publish a full breakdown in the update notes the day before Season 5 begins.
EA is also assessing changes for 2027
EA describes Season 5 as the start of Battlefield 6 and REDSEC’s second year. The studio says new content will continue through 2027 alongside work on the systems that define the games. Areas under review include vehicle gameplay, further gunplay changes, and the size, power, and effectiveness of gadget- and vehicle-related explosives.
EA is testing an improved firing range and visual and animation updates across the weapon lineup. It is also evaluating bolt-action sniper rifle balance and ways for players to fight back against those weapons. The studio said it would share more details in the months ahead, but these plans are still being assessed.
