War Thunder’s Desert Predator Event Offers the AMV (BMP-3) as a Rank VI Reward
The Swedish light tank pairs an 8x8 Patria chassis with a BMP-3 turret, and the event began October 1.

War Thunder’s Desert Predator event began October 1, offering the AMV (BMP-3) as a Rank VI light tank for Sweden. Gaijin’s vehicle announcement describes a Finnish Patria AMV chassis carrying the BMP-3 turret. Players can earn it through the event, with the event details explaining how to obtain the vehicle.
A fast chassis with a mixed weapons loadout
The AMV’s 8×8 wheel layout gives it a listed top speed of 100 km/h, while a gunner thermal sight supports target spotting. Its BMP-3 combat module combines a 30 mm autocannon with a 100 mm gun-launcher that can fire tandem-warhead anti-tank guided missiles. The vehicle can carry up to eight of those missiles.
That mix gives the vehicle different tools for different distances. The 30 mm gun’s high-explosive belts can threaten helicopters, while its armor-piercing discarding sabot rounds can damage armored vehicles at close range, including by disabling guns or tracks. The 100 mm gun’s high-explosive rounds suit lighter targets, while the missiles become the main option for engaging tanks at longer distances.

Its protection has limits. The armor is not meant to stop tank shells, though it can withstand machine-gun fire and may survive hits from some early-generation anti-tank guided missiles. The vehicle also has a relatively high profile, which can make it easier to spot.
Gaijin describes the AMV (BMP-3) as Sweden’s first wheeled tank at Rank VI and an alternative to the tracked CV vehicles. Its speed should be especially useful on urban maps with paved roads, where the wheels can make it easier to move between positions. Players may recognize the Patria name from the Finnish CT-CV 105HP, but this variant uses an extended chassis with more space between its second and third wheel pairs.
The real vehicle was built around a UAE order
A Patria vehicle fitted with a BMP-3 turret was presented at the IDEX exhibition in 2007. In January 2008, the UAE ordered 15 extended-hull Patria AMV chassis for BMP-3 turrets, which were already in service with the country, and Namut thermal imaging sights. The UAE General Staff ordered another 40 chassis in 2016, with an option for 50 more. The number currently in service is unknown.
Gaijin notes that the in-game vehicle’s specifications may change before it is added to War Thunder. Would the AMV’s speed and wheeled design affect how you build a Swedish Rank VI lineup? Follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram, Steam, and Telegram.
