The Wolf Among Us Remastered Rebuilt Its Lighting Across Every Scene
Telltale moved the adventure to a newer engine, rebuilt its character art, and introduced a pure black-and-white Noir Mode.

Every scene in The Wolf Among Us Remastered was relit during development after changes to any scene required the team to redo its lighting. Game director and Telltale VP of Creative Matt Saia discussed that work, along with the remaster’s rebuilt character art and Noir Mode, in a PlayStation Blog interview.
Saia said the team began by moving the original Telltale engine to the latest version used in the studio’s Batman series. It then created new shaders for details such as shiny bottles and inverted lines on moving objects, including the ghost ship. Lighting became the biggest challenge. The team had not planned to relight every scene, but changes made that necessary, and all of them had been relit by the end.
The character work went well beyond a simple resolution increase. Every character moved through concept art, a high-end model, and a final in-game model, with new textures and models throughout. Saia described them as multiple times more detailed than the original designs, while keeping familiar characters recognizable. Bigby, he said, still looks like Bigby. The werewolf received a more feral and powerful redesign.
Telltale said it left the story, directorial choices, and overall art style intact. The remaster’s updated presentation and behind-the-scenes features are meant to offer something for returning fans without changing the adventure they remember.
Noir Mode gives the game a pure black-and-white look. Saia compared it with Shadows Mode from Telltale’s Batman series, which kept some color in its presentation. In The Wolf Among Us Remastered, the monochrome treatment makes the shadows feel darker, he said.
The game is scheduled to launch on October 29, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. The PS5 version is available to wishlist on the PlayStation Store.
