4A Games will bring a free next-gen upgrade to Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux, starting on PC on October 22, 2026, before launching on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 29. Existing owners will receive the upgrade at no additional cost.
Console players can expect 4K resolution and up to 120 FPS, while the PC version will support 4K resolution with uncapped frame rates. Both games are also getting refreshed textures, lighting, shadows, animations, audio, and environmental detail.
The schedule gives a concrete answer to the ESRB listings that recently named PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for both games. Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux are already playable on those consoles through backward compatibility, but the upgrade points to dedicated current-console support rather than a simple continuation of the existing versions.
The ESRB listing for Metro 2033 Redux and the listing for Metro: Last Light Redux both carry an M for Mature 17+ rating and note in-game purchases. The first lists blood, sexual themes, strong language, drug use, and violence. The second lists blood, intense violence, nudity, sexual content, strong language, and the use of drugs and alcohol.
The upgrade arrives as the Metro franchise passes 50 million global sales since the first game debuted in 2010. For owners who already have both Redux releases installed, the real question is whether the higher frame-rate ceiling will make another trip through the tunnels worthwhile.
