Deep Rock Galactic Confirms Season 07 for December Alongside Season 08 and Paid Expansion
Season 07 will add about 20 Overclocks, 11 new perks, tattoo cosmetics, traversal tool paintjobs, and a Memory Core recovery event.
Deep Rock Galactic now has a content plan stretching through summer 2027. Season 07, titled Contingency Protocol, is targeted for December 2026, while Season 08 and an extensive paid gameplay expansion are planned to launch together in summer 2027. Ghost Ship Crew and Invisible Walls announced the plans in a Steam announcement following the Big Break Showcase, which had been scheduled in an earlier event announcement.
Season 07 is still in development, and the team warned that the features shown may change before launch. Its story centers on gravitational anomalies around Hoxxes IV and a series of fatal Drop Pod crashes. Mining crews will visit the crash sites, recover Memory Cores, and deal with areas where gravity may not behave normally.
About 20 new Overclocks are planned for the season, with every class’s secondary weapons receiving attention. The early examples include Neurotoxin Minelets, Dragonfire Shells, and Dismantler Rounds.
Season 07 will rebuild the perk system
The perk system will receive 11 new perks alongside reworks for some existing options. A new Perk Maintenance system will work similarly to Weapon Maintenance, while players who unlock every perk will gain access to Perk Proficiency slots. Those slots will let miners spend excess perk points on very small baseline stat bonuses.
Cosmetic customization is also expanding underground. The passive, camouflage-capable Kadoc Inker will appear in the caves, allowing miners to collect ink sacs for tattoo cosmetics. Season 07 will also let players apply paintjobs to traversal tools, either matching their current outfit or using a separate look.
A new free Performance Pass will arrive with the season as well. The first showcased weapon framework is Ironclad Tactical, and the update will include the usual smaller quality-of-life changes and bug fixes in addition to its larger features.
Season 08 and the paid expansion are planned together
Season 08 will launch in summer 2027 at the same time as the gameplay expansion. Ghost Ship Games confirmed that Season 08 will remain free, as with the previous seasons, while the expansion will require a purchase. The paid release is intended to support a larger scope for the added content while free updates continue.
Details about Season 08 and the expansion are not ready yet. The team described Season 08 as a smaller season that will continue the story introduced in Season 07 and provide free rewards alongside the expansion. For now, development attention remains on Contingency Protocol.
