War Thunder’s YP-38 Is 20% Off Through September 21

The second Lockheed P-38 Lightning prototype made its maiden flight on September 17, 1940, and can only be purchased during the limited-time offer.

War Thunder has started a 20% sale for the YP-38, bringing the aircraft to 920 Golden Eagles through September 21 at 09:00 GMT. Players can find it under USA > Aviation > Premium vehicles, and it can only be purchased during the event.

Gaijin Entertainment outlines the promotion in its Steam announcement. The purchase window runs from September 17 at 09:00 GMT to September 21 at 09:00 GMT.

The YP-38’s prototype history

The YP-38 was the second prototype of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter, making its maiden flight on September 17, 1940. Only 13 YP-38 aircraft were produced, with the fleet used for testing and training while the aircraft’s key innovations and design features were evaluated.

What the discounted aircraft carries

In battle, the YP-38 can continue flying on a single engine, and its protected pilot is difficult to knock out with small-caliber rounds. Its 37 mm cannon can be difficult to aim, but one hit is usually enough to destroy an enemy aircraft.

The cannon is supported by two 12.7 mm machine guns and two 7.62 mm machine guns. That combination gives the aircraft several ways to pressure targets, although the main cannon remains its most dangerous weapon when a shot connects.

Would the YP-38’s 37 mm cannon be enough to bring you into the cockpit before September 21? Share your thoughts in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram, Steam, and Telegram.
