Euro Truck Simulator 2’s Iceland DLC Will Include a Hidden Road to Þingvellir

The latest SCS On The Road episode also follows map designers riding through Iceland in a 780-horsepower Volvo FH16 XXL with local driver Skúli.

SCS Software’s latest SCS On The Road episode gives Euro Truck Simulator 2 players a closer look at the Iceland DLC, including a hidden road that will cross a narrow bridge on the way to Þingvellir National Park. The route is one of several locations the map team is recreating from its real-world research.

SCS Software detailed the episode in its September 16 Steam announcement. Alongside footage of Iceland’s terrain and landmarks, the video includes comparisons between the real locations and their in-game counterparts, plus commentary on how the map designers turn field references into playable roads.

The episode expands on the Iceland research trip, which covered roughly the western half of the Ring Road between Lake Mývatn and Vík. The team gathered references for towns, roads, terrain, bridges, and landmarks while traveling through the country.

The hidden route will cross a narrow bridge

Þingvellir National Park will be connected to the wider map by an upcoming hidden road. Its narrow bridge is a small detail, but it shows how the DLC will use less obvious routes alongside Iceland’s main roads and better-known scenery.

Map designers also discuss the work behind recreating Iceland’s landscapes and landmarks. Real-world references help the team judge scale, placement, and the way each location fits around the road, giving the new region more than a collection of scenic backdrops.

A truck cab offered a different view of Iceland

Members of SCS Software’s marketing team joined the map designers to document the trip, while Skúli, a real truck driver from Iceland, took the group on a ride in a 780-horsepower Volvo FH16 XXL. Seeing the roads from a truck cabin gave the designers another reference point for the scale and feel of the upcoming map.

The Iceland DLC is still in development, and the new episode keeps the focus on the research behind its roads rather than announcing a release date. The hidden route to Þingvellir gives drivers one more reason to look beyond the main highway once the expansion arrives.
