Season 5’s Underflips and Footplants Are Built for Street Lines Too

Full Circle also explained how the new tricks preserve momentum, fit into combo lines, and arrive with challenges that introduce them gradually.

Season 5’s Underflips and Improved Footplants are meant to support street lines, not only the long jumps in S.U.M.R. Camp. In the September 8 edition of The Weekly Grind, Full Circle’s gameplay team explained how the tricks connect to existing air states, preserve momentum, and get introduced through tasks rather than being left for players to discover on their own in the September 8 Weekly Grind announcement.

The broader Season 5 rollout already covered S.U.M.R. Camp, Block Parties, and the 16 Underflip variations. The latest developer interviews add detail about how those additions fit into the rest of skate..

Underflips connect to the existing air system

The Underflip lineup began with versions from earlier games before the team expanded it with new options. Hospital flips add four variations, while Impossible Underflips add four more, including the Nollie Hospital Heelflip and Front Foot Impossible Underflip. The system also supports the four scoop directions, giving players a consistent set of inputs instead of leaving certain combinations unavailable.

Every Underflip starts from a regular flip animation and branches into the new move when the follow-up input arrives. Since the timing between a kickflip and a Kickflip Underflip can be tight, the team adjusted the input response to give players a wider window without removing the precision that makes the trick feel technical.

That approach also applies to players who did not grow up with the older Skate games. Full Circle said it spent time making the input response approachable enough for less experienced players while still leaving room for more practiced skaters to build Underflips into difficult lines.

Underflips are not limited to S.U.M.R. Camp’s biggest gaps. They can be used in street-style and realism-focused lines, and they leave the skater in an air state afterward. That means players can follow one with a grab, a Footplant, or another action whenever they have enough airtime.

Improved Footplants keep lines moving

Season 5 adds four Footplant variations, Judo Footplant, BS Footplant, FS Footplant, and Fast Plant. They branch naturally from one-foot board grabs, while directional control lets players aim as they leave the Footplant instead of simply returning along the same path.

The move can also make smaller surfaces playable. While the skater is airborne, the game checks whether an extended foot can reach a correctly positioned object such as a lamp post, fence post, or rail. A successful connection lets the skater plant and take off again, opening up lines that would not work as a normal landing.

Players can combine the move with other air actions as well. The interview specifically described chaining a backflip into a Footplant and a front flip out of it, along with kickflip-to-Footplant options on flat ground.

Footplants briefly reduce the skater’s velocity when the foot makes contact, which gives the landing a readable point of impact. Most of that speed is then returned so the line keeps moving instead of stopping after the trick.

Free socks and more Weekly Grind features

Players who log in during Season 5 can find plain white socks in their inventory for free. The September 8 calendar also includes new Weekly Tasks, an S.U.M.R. Camp interview with Brad and Elliot, and the Underflips and Improved Footplants interviews.

The upcoming calendar entries include the Slamiversary Video Contest and Anniversary Sweeps in Discord. Full Circle also asked players to suggest other interview subjects, including gameplay, tricks, and world design.

Known issues that remain under investigation

Several problems are still being tracked. Some players cannot export MP4 files, with WebM listed as the PC workaround. Other issues affect trick detection, graphics settings, animations, and Quick Drop.

  • Changing the graphics preset does not always update the values shown at the bottom of the Graphics screen.
  • Tailslides and Noseslides can fail to register when approaching a ledge from the end, while Wallrides can cause unnatural flips.
  • Quick Drop can fail to open from the radial menu. Holding D-Pad Left provides a shortcut.
  • Traffic and pedestrians can appear during Challenges. Turning off Challenge Player Visibility is the listed workaround.
  • With PS5 Power Saver enabled, a Switch or nollie 360 inward heelflip can rotate the skater unexpectedly.
  • Xbox One can experience small stutters while traversing the map, and Gen 4 consoles can get stuck loading when Gen 5 consoles and PC players frequently use co-op travel.
  • The Block Party interface can fail to appear when a player spawns inside an active event.

Players can continue sending reports through EA’s bug reports forum. Are you more interested in taking Underflips into street lines or trying the new Footplants? Tell us what you think in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram, Steam, and Telegram.
