Nintendo will release a Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch 2 on October 29, 2026, giving The Legend of Zelda a special console to mark its 40th anniversary. The hardware was confirmed during the Zelda Anniversary Nintendo Direct on September 8. Nintendo had announced global start times for the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct in the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct schedule before the presentation confirmed the Zelda-themed Switch 2’s October 29 release.
The package includes a Switch 2 console, a matching dock, and a pair of Joy-Con 2 controllers. Gold holographic Triforce symbols cover the back of the console, while the dock features a larger decorated Triforce surrounded by symbols representing the three goddesses.
Both Joy-Con 2 controllers use an earthy green color with gold details beneath the analog sticks. Transparent Triforce patterns appear across the controllers, with pixel artwork of Link on the left Joy-Con 2 and Zelda on the back of the right one. Nintendo describes this as its first Zelda-branded main console release since the Wind Waker Wii U.
Matching Zelda accessories are also coming
Nintendo will also release a Zelda 40th Anniversary Pro Controller 2, combining black, green, and gold with Triforce patterns and an ornate design in the center. Buyers will have the option of pairing it with a Hyrule display stand, although that stand will only be sold through Nintendo’s hardware store, Nintendo New York, and Nintendo San Francisco.
A matching carrying case and screen protector will round out the accessory lineup. Both use a black design with brown trim, Triforce patterns, and a gold Triforce emblem on the front.
Japanese prices are available
Nintendo has not announced international pricing for the anniversary hardware. Its Japanese press release lists the console at 62,980 yen, the Pro Controller and display stand at 12,980 yen, and the carrying case with screen protector at 3,980 yen.
The console arrives before Ocarina of Time
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will launch for Switch 2 on November 5, 2026, one week after the anniversary hardware. The remake is not included with the Zelda edition, so fans who want both will need to purchase the game separately.
