The Blood of Dawnwalker’s Custom PC Settings Hit 62 FPS at 1440p

A repeatable Briar Sloughs run on an RTX 4060 and Ryzen 7 7700X produced that result with DLSS Balanced.

The Blood of Dawnwalker can put serious pressure on a gaming PC, especially when Coen leaves the open roads and enters the dense forests of Carpathia. A repeatable 1440p run averaged 50 FPS on the High preset with DLSS Balanced, but a carefully chosen custom setup reached 62 FPS without pushing every visual option to Low.

A mid-range test system used an Nvidia RTX 4060 and AMD Ryzen 7 7700X. Rebel Wolves’ final PC requirements place an RTX 4060-class GPU in the 1440p at 60 FPS tier, but the forest benchmark shows why the listed target may require a few compromises.

The 1440p settings to change first

Keep DLSS on Balanced and adjust the four settings that put the most pressure on scenes filled with foliage, lighting, and shadows. The recommended starting point is:

  • Shadow Quality Low
  • Light Quality Medium
  • Foliage Quality Medium
  • Detail Quality Medium

Reducing all four options to Medium produced a 57 FPS average in the repeatable Briar Sloughs route. Lowering Shadow Quality one more step to Low brought the average to 62 FPS, with a 46 FPS 1% low. For comparison, High with DLSS Balanced averaged 50 FPS with a 35 FPS 1% low.

Shadow Quality is the biggest target here. Lower shadows can cause more visible pop-in during movement, but they still hold up during combat. Medium Foliage Quality removes some scattered detail from the forest floor, while the lower Light and Detail settings preserve most of the scene’s overall appearance.

Why DLSS Performance is a poor first step

Switching from DLSS Balanced to Performance raised the High preset from 50 FPS to 56 FPS in the same 1440p run. The tradeoff is that Performance renders internally at roughly 720p, and the extra frames come with more noise around the foliage.

AMD users saw a harsher image when using FSR 4 at Ultra Performance. Rock textures showed visible shimmer, and the main character could develop fringing while moving through the world. Lowering the four graphics options first keeps more image clarity than immediately choosing the most aggressive upscaling mode.

When to turn on Frame Generation

Rebel Wolves added an experimental Frame Generation option before launch, with 2x modes for both DLSS and FSR. It does not create the same kind of performance as a higher native frame rate, but it can make a lower base rate feel smoother.

On the RTX 4060, High with DLSS Balanced and 2x Frame Generation averaged 73 FPS, compared with 50 FPS without the feature. The 1% low was 42 FPS, so the higher average did not double the game’s underlying frame rate. The test also measured about 4 ms of additional PC latency, along with some extra character fringing and artifacts during quick camera pans through detailed areas.

Frame Generation is worth trying when the game sits around 50 FPS and the extra smoothness matters more than perfect clarity. If the custom settings already keep the game above 60 FPS, leaving it off avoids those added artifacts and latency.

Expect lower results in the hardest scenes

A 62 FPS average does not lock every part of Dawnwalker to 60 FPS. A more demanding nighttime fight involving several characters averaged 53 FPS even with the custom settings, so the forest run should be treated as a useful baseline rather than a guarantee.

Start with the four-option setup, keep DLSS Balanced, and then test a busy combat scene before reaching for DLSS Performance or the lowest FSR mode. That order gives the game room to keep its detailed world intact while taking pressure off the settings that cost the most frames.
