RuneScape will make its Xbox debut with a very different kind of adventure. RuneScape: Dragonwilds, a survival RPG set in the long-running franchise, will launch its 1.0 release on September 15, 2026, marking the series’ first appearance on Xbox in 25 years.
Jagex confirmed the release date in an Xbox Wire announcement. The game will support solo play or co-op groups of up to four players, and it will also be available through Xbox Game Pass. The Xbox store listing identifies Xbox Series X|S as the supported console platform.
Ashenfall turns RuneScape skills into survival tools
Players begin as ordinary adventurers on Ashenfall, a hidden continent within the RuneScape universe that locals connect to Gielinor. Dragons have awakened across the region, and survival means gathering resources, crafting equipment, building shelter, and gradually learning enough about the land to confront the Dragon Queen, Kuldra.
Progress follows a familiar RuneScape-style path, with skills rising from level 1 to 99. Those skills cover martial, magical, and everyday activities, while Skill Spells give players more unusual ways to handle routine problems. A spectral axe can cut down trees in an instant, magic can move an adventurer out of danger, and other spells can turn bones into peaches, summon a tornado of fish, or break apart ore veins.
Combat will send players against Black Knights, Zogres, Chromatic Dragons, Kalphites, and Garou, an entirely new creature for the setting. Ashenfall also hides dangerous vaults, powerful dragons, and other mysteries, so reaching Kuldra will require more than simply collecting supplies and hoping the weather behaves.

Building gives the survival side a more personal edge. Players can use hundreds of building pieces to create homes and defensive bases, whether they are preparing a solo camp or establishing a shared stronghold with friends. The same systems that support shelter also leave room for players to decide how much time they want to spend turning a safe location into something far more ambitious.
Dragonwilds has a roadmap beyond its 1.0 launch
The world has already grown during the game’s development. Over the past 18 months, the map tripled in size, adding three large regions, area bosses, material upgrades, and RuneScape gear. Jagex has also outlined a roadmap that will carry new content into 2027 and beyond.
Player feedback has helped guide that work. The development team says feedback led to dedicated servers being introduced earlier than planned, along with new combat and quest content. That approach will continue after the September 15 launch as RuneScape: Dragonwilds moves from early development into its 1.0 release.
