Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 players can now visit 9 Italian cities through City Update 16: Italy, which became available for free on August 27, 2026. The update also supports owners of Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020).
The official City Update 16 announcement covers new scenery from northern Italy to the country’s southern tip, with additional locations on Sardinia and Sicily. The 9 areas of interest use high-fidelity triangulated irregular network surface texturing, digital elevation and terrain modeling, plus recent high-resolution aerial imagery.
That gives virtual pilots a sizeable collection of new routes and landmarks to visit, from Alpine scenery and Adriatic ports to Mediterranean coastlines, historic city centers, and dramatic mountain backdrops.
9 Italian cities included in City Update 16
- Bolzano sits in northern Italy, about 30 miles south of Austria. Founded as a Roman military station in 15 BCE, the city is known as the gateway to the Dolomites.
- Cagliari is Sardinia’s capital and most populous city. Its location on the Gulf of Cagliari brings together Mediterranean beaches, Roman ruins, and medieval architecture.
- Genoa is the capital of Liguria and one of the Mediterranean’s major port cities. Its coastal setting includes Renaissance and Baroque architecture alongside a long maritime history.
- Messina sits on Sicily’s northeastern tip, between the Peloritani Mountains and the Strait of Messina. The location offers both coastal and mountain scenery.
- Pisa lies along the Arno River in Tuscany. Its Piazza dei Miracoli includes the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa and other medieval landmarks.
- Reggio di Calabria occupies the toe of the Italian Peninsula along the Strait of Messina. The city is known for its coastline, Mediterranean climate, and historic Greek statues and buildings.
- Rimini is a popular seaside destination on the Adriatic Sea. Its attractions include Roman landmarks and its position as a gateway to San Marino.
