Flight Simulator 2024 Briefing Maps Out the Next A220, Ecuador Fly-In, and More

The team continued testing Sim Update 6 while highlighting a new Marketplace airliner, community events, flight destinations, and the week's screenshot challenge.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024’s July 23 weekly briefing covered the ongoing Sim Update 6 beta, a new A220 airliner headed for the in-sim Marketplace, and several community activities taking place this week. The full weekly briefing also featured new flight ideas and the latest screenshot challenge.

Sim Update 6 Testing Continues

The development team continued working on Sim Update 6 after releasing public beta build 1.8.8.0 the previous week. The test build was available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.

Players taking part in the beta could review the 1.8.8.0 release notes, submit bug reports through the Sim Update 6 beta forums, and vote in the related feedback surveys.

A New A220 Is Coming to the Marketplace

Synaptic Simulations and iniBuilds announced Tuesday that their A220 Airliner would arrive in the in-sim Marketplace the following week. The announcement also introduced a video covering the aircraft’s features and flight systems through the developers’ Instagram post.

Community Fly-In Heads to Ecuador

This week’s Community Fly-In Friday focused on Ecuador. The planned route began with a northwesterly flight to Manta on the Pacific coast, including a touch-and-go landing, before turning northeast toward the Andes and the final destination of Quito.

Full route information was available in the Ecuador fly-in details. The previous event took place in France for Bastille Day, with the team also sharing screenshots from that flight.

Two Airshows Offer New Flight Ideas

The briefing pointed pilots toward two real-world aviation events. EAA AirVenture Oshkosh was taking place at KOSH in Wisconsin, while the Farnborough International Airshow was underway at EGLF in the UK, around 17 nautical miles southeast of Reading.

Players looking for more group-flight opportunities could find regular community events through the dedicated Community Events forum.

Community Video Features a Fanracer Aircraft

Developer Delmonte_Simulation released the free Fanracer aerobatic aircraft, which takes inspiration from the futuristic aircraft featured in the 1982 Japanese science fiction anime series Super Dimension Fortress Macross (超時空要塞マクロス). YouTube creator AvAngel showcased the aircraft in a video review.

Airshows Become This Week’s Screenshot Theme

The current screenshot challenge asked the community to submit images themed around Airshows. The previous challenge focused on Daring Deeds.

The weekly winner was ARROW2929, with additional screenshots credited to Brandelinium, IceManDBB, eaglegreg1206, FuriousFish807, Gutterslush, HeKa48, Pommes_L, Sea Shanty Productions, SmotheryVase665, and Takeru_Toys.

The next weekly briefing is scheduled for July 30, 2026. Share your thoughts on the A220, Sim Update 6 testing, and this week’s community plans in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, and Instagram.
