Rockstar Addresses GTA VI Leaks Ahead of Its August 27 Extended Look
The studio said Grand Theft Auto VI is nearly finished and hopes players will wait until November 19 to experience it for themselves.
Rockstar Games apologized on Wednesday, August 26, after unauthorized Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay clips circulated for more than a week. In its official message, the studio said the game is nearly finished, but acknowledged that completing development, sharing more details and official gameplay, and providing the information fans have requested took longer than expected. The statement arrived one day before the game’s scheduled extended look.

Rockstar said seeing Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leak in that manner had been “heartbreaking for our team.” The studio added that the leaked videos were never meant to be the way players first experienced GTA VI after waiting so long. Spoilers may have already affected that experience for some fans, so Rockstar asked the community to wait until November 19 and discover the game for themselves.
The leak wave included alleged footage tied to a mysterious source using the name Cyberleek, a claimed Leonida map, and clips that appeared close to final. Earlier leak coverage detailed some of the material that spread before Rockstar addressed the situation.
Take-Two Interactive had also begun pursuing information through subpoenas aimed at Microsoft and Discord, seeking chat logs and account details that could help identify the person behind the leaks.
Rather than offer new details about the leaked material, Rockstar focused on the people waiting for the game. The studio thanked fans who sent supportive messages during the past week, said GTA VI was made for its community, and looked forward to sharing more soon. Rockstar also said the upcoming presentation took longer than planned to prepare, but that it wants the showcase to meet expectations and present the game as intended.

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will premiere for Netflix subscribers on Thursday, August 27, at 3 p.m. ET. The presentation will then reach the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI website at 9 p.m. ET. Rockstar and Netflix have not announced how long the presentation will run.
