PS5’s Black Ops 1 and 2 Ports Now Put a Modern Warfare 4 Pre-Order Button in the Menu

Recent updates to the PlayStation ports added the entry beside regular multiplayer options, giving the upcoming shooter a prominent place in the older games.

Recent updates to the PS4 and PS5 ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops II added a “Pre-Order MW4” option to the main multiplayer menus. The button promotes the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 alongside the older games’ normal online and settings options.

The two native PlayStation ports arrived earlier this year, giving players a way to return to the original Black Ops games on current hardware. Now, opening either multiplayer menu also puts Activision and Microsoft’s next major shooter directly in front of them.

The Black Ops 2 menu change is documented in a post showing the new pre-order entry:

A second menu capture shows the same kind of promotion in the other Black Ops port:

Promotional news feeds are common in current online games, where menus often carry messages about downloadable content or upcoming releases. These ports, however, were welcomed in part because many Call of Duty players have grown frustrated with the direction of newer entries. Seeing a pre-order prompt placed beside core multiplayer choices makes the separation between the older games and the current release cycle feel considerably smaller.

For now, the Modern Warfare 4 button is simply another menu option, but its placement gives the upcoming game a high-visibility sales pitch inside two older Call of Duty releases. Players who opened the ports for a return to the classic games have already responded skeptically to the added promotion.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is a first-person shooter and the follow-up to Modern Warfare III (2023), continuing the rebooted Modern Warfare storyline. The campaign is set during a North Korean invasion of South Korea and features dual perspectives: a young South Korean soldier named Private Park facing his first combat deployment, and Captain Price operating outside official channels on a personal mission. The game also includes multiplayer with 6v6 core maps, large-scale vehicle combat maps, and a dynamic map system called Kill Block that reshapes layouts between rounds. A DMZ extraction mode is also featured. The game is released exclusively on current-generation platforms and PC.
