Riot Will End 2XKO Development in December, but Servers Will Stay Online
Riot plans to unlock every Champion, offer a $39.99 / £33.99 / €39.99 cosmetics bundle, add Lux and Samira, and refund money spent on the game through August 20, 2026.

Riot Games will end active development on 2XKO in December 2026, but the fighting game will remain online and playable after development stops. In its August 20 announcement, Riot said the game had not attracted enough players to support a sustainable future.
2XKO received its full release in January 2026, only months before Riot’s announcement. Built as a 2v2 assist fighter around League of Legends Champions and team play, the game will remain available even after active development ends.
The servers will stay online across all platforms, with Riot continuing to deliver content and improvements through the end of 2026. The October update will be the last major content patch, followed by one final bug patch scheduled for December. Offline play will not be affected.
Riot said it had tracked 2XKO’s performance for several months. Although an active community still plays every day, engagement remained mostly flat even after larger updates, while operating costs stayed above the game’s revenue. Riot said dedicated tag-fighter players enjoyed the game, but many other fighting-game players did not find enough reasons to keep returning.
Riot’s decision follows the layoff of approximately 80 developers less than three weeks after 2XKO’s release. At the time, the company said the game’s momentum was not enough to support a team of that size.
2XKO will unlock its gameplay content before development ends
Riot plans to release two more playable Champions before active development concludes. The September 8 update will unlock all gameplay content, make every Champion available, and add Lux to the roster. September will also expand private lobby and voice chat options. Riot will offer a final 2XKO Ultimate Bundle for $39.99 / £33.99 / €39.99, including all skins, skin chromas, and taunts, including cosmetics for Lux and Samira.
Samira will arrive in the October update as 2XKO’s final Champion. She will be playable for free with Patch 1.3.3, bringing the roster to 19 Champions.
The studio also said it would disable KO point purchases and refund all money spent on 2XKO on or before August 20, 2026, with refunds expected in the coming weeks. Riot did not provide further refund-process details in the announcement.
“We want to do right by the players who want to continue playing 2XKO, and deeply respect the love put into the game and the scene up to now. 2XKO remains online and playable, and we aren’t going anywhere yet. We’ve still got more content to show you through the end of this year, and we are truly grateful to everyone who has been a part of 2XKO’s journey so far.”
