NBA 2K27’s MyPLAYER Builder will add female builds and 19 new Badges

The redesign will also bring Badge Tokens, Synergy slots, Signature Blueprints, and an NBA 2K HQ app arriving August 21.

NBA 2K27 will give its MyPLAYER Builder a major redesign when Early Access begins on August 26 at 9:00 AM PT. Players will be able to create female MyPLAYERs, build around 19 new Badges, save different Badge setups, and test Cap Breaker upgrades before committing to a build. The full feature breakdown appears in the official Steam announcement.

The biggest change arrives in The City, which will become a co-ed space for male and female MyPLAYERs. Both types of builds use the same framework, so height, weight, wingspan, and ratings come from the build itself rather than the character’s appearance. The selected option is locked to that save file, but every player will compete under the same on-court rules and performance system.

Mixed squads will be able to play in The REC, The Theater, Street Kings, Park, and other City activities. Female MyPLAYERs can also use the same NBA and WNBA animation library when creating a playstyle.

NBA 2K HQ will let players build away from the game

The NBA 2K HQ app will become available on August 21, five days before Early Access. It will include the complete NBA 2K27 MyPLAYER Builder, allowing players to create builds from a device and upload them directly to their main game setup.

Builds can also be shared with friends through QR codes and links. That means players can work on a point guard, center, or defensive specialist before sitting down for a game instead of waiting until they are back at their usual setup.

Badge Tokens will make every build more specialized

NBA 2K27 will include 53 Badges, with 19 new additions. Badge Tokens will be used to equip them, and the Builder will show the required cost in real time as players adjust their size, position, and attributes. The same Badge may cost a different number of tokens for different body types, reflecting the tradeoffs built into each setup.

Every MyPLAYER begins with 20 Badge slots spread across Shooting, Finishing, Playmaking, Defense, Rebounding, and Physicals. Those slots become available upon entering The City, but players must earn the required tokens before filling them. Progress is tracked by discipline rather than by individual Badge, with Team Practice drills and Gatorade workouts also contributing to the meters.

The new Badges are divided across the six disciplines:

  • Shooting: Set and Fire, Arc Cadence, Static Middy, Smooth Operator, and Quick Trigger.
  • Finishing: Post Spin Catalyst and Ghost Stepper.
  • Playmaking: Pace.
  • Defense: Wall Up, Ankle Braces, and Seatbelt.
  • Rebounding: Crasher, Possession Closer, Sync Snatcher, Boxout Boss, and Breaker.
  • Physicals: Work Horse, Flash, and Bruiser.

Legend Badges will not be available when a build is created, although they can still be earned later. The system also separates functions that were previously combined. For example, 2K27 replaces the 2K26 Set Shot Specialist Badge with the more focused Static Middy and Set and Fire options.

Rebirth and Synergy add long-term progression

Players can reassign some Badge Tokens whenever they want, while tokens earned through events remain tied to their original discipline. Build Specialization, Seasons, and Crew rewards can provide Bonus Slots and Bonus Tokens that work across disciplines, giving players more room to change direction later.

The four Rebirth tiers are also returning. Once a build reaches 90 OVR, Rebirth can start a new build at the highest OVR previously reached. NBA 2K27 will also unlock a percentage of that build’s default Badge Tokens immediately, with higher Rebirth levels providing more tokens from the beginning.

Synergy is another progression layer. It includes 16 slots: 12 provide a +1 boost and four provide a +2 boost. Fuse Badges receive their boost permanently for the game and free the Badge Tokens that would normally be spent equipping them. Reaction Badges are paired with Fuse Badges and activate after the Fuse Badge has been triggered a set number of times during a game.

Synergy earned through Season rewards expires at the end of that Season. Rewards from Build Specialization, Crews, and REP remain permanent across the save files on an account.

Badge Loadouts can be changed before tip-off

Each MyPLAYER will start with one Badge Loadout, with up to three more available through REP, Challenges, and Crews. Loadouts let players save different Badge combinations and switch between them before a game begins, without leaving for the menu screen.

A player could keep one setup for scoring inside and another for defending a larger matchup, then select the better fit before tip-off.

Signature Blueprints offer a faster way to create a build

The Builder will offer three creation paths: Create Your Own MyPLAYER, Community Build templates, and the new Signature Blueprints. Signature Blueprints replace the previous Pro-Tuned and NBA templates while combining their guided structure with player-inspired animations and attributes.

Each template draws from three NBA or WNBA player comparisons. The Bulldozer example combines elements from LeBron James, Pascal Siakam, and Scottie Barnes. Forty Signature Blueprint templates will be available at launch, with more added during future Seasons.

Cap Breaker previews remove guesswork

Cap Breakers will return with a preview built directly into the Builder. After a build reaches 99 OVR in the creation screen, players can see the exact attribute increase from each Cap Breaker before applying it.

The preview will be part of the new Builder Glossary, which also contains information about Badges, Animations, and Takeover Abilities.

Takeover perks and six Build Specialization tracks

Each MyPLAYER starts with five Takeover slots containing standard attribute boosts. Meeting attribute requirements unlocks 19 more Takeover Abilities across the five disciplines, bringing the total to 24. Hydration Hero can occupy any of the five slots and prevents Adrenaline and Stamina drain while active.

Takeover progress builds passively as players fill their meters during games. There are 21 rewards in total, including 15 Takeover Perks. One perk can be equipped per discipline, with three types available:

  • Accelerator: Fills the Takeover meter faster.
  • Longevity: Extends the duration of an active Takeover Ability.
  • Overdrive: Raises the attribute boosts provided by the active Takeover Ability.

The separate Gameplay Courtside Report covers the wider Takeover changes in more detail.

Build Specialization will now include Physicals alongside Shooting, Finishing, Playmaking, Defense, and Rebounding. Each of the six tracks contains 10 quests with discipline-focused objectives. One example requires players to hit corner threes for a Level 5 Shooting quest.

Completing these tracks can provide Cap Breakers and exclusive cosmetics. Reaching Level 10 in a track also awards a permanent +2 Badge Synergy reward.

NBA 2K27’s MyPLAYER Builder will give players far more ways to shape a build before stepping onto the court. Early Access begins August 26 at 9:00 AM PT, while the NBA 2K HQ app will be available on August 21.
