Star Citizen Developers Ended a Live Demo After Weapons and Inventory Problems

The team abandoned the Siege of Orison mission after bugs created tense exchanges and drew criticism from viewers.

Cloud Imperium Games ended a Star Citizen developer livestream before the team could complete its planned Siege of Orison mission. Problems with weapons and inventory management turned the broadcast into an unusually candid look at the game’s current state.

Star Citizen has been in development for 14 years, while Cloud Imperium Games has raised more than $1 billion through crowdfunding. That history has kept attention on the studio’s public demonstrations, especially when they are meant to show how the game should work under controlled conditions.

The Siege of Orison stream ran into trouble

As IGN reported, the developers struggled with several basic parts of the session, including weapon handling and inventory work. Repeated problems put the team under pressure, and the exchanges between developers grew tense and at times passive-aggressive. They eventually stopped the broadcast rather than finish the mission.

The awkwardness stood out because the stream was supposed to be a controlled demonstration. Instead, viewers saw problems similar to those they have encountered during regular play. Comments under the video described the developers as uncomfortable and criticized the local-server gameplay, with some viewers calling the presentation forced and difficult to watch.

The closing remarks brought another wave of criticism. Jared Huckaby, Cloud Imperium Games’ content director, said during the developer stream that he was “super proud of what these guys are doing here” and that the session would let players have “the same experience we had today.” The comment came after the team had struggled to get through the very experience it intended to present.
