World of Tanks Update 2.4: Overdrive Centers on Six Tier XI Tanks and New Matchmaking Rules
The update also adds a new Personal Mission Operation with the Tier X Fossa VM 68 as its top reward.

Wargaming has outlined Update 2.4: Overdrive for World of Tanks, a wide-ranging package built around six Tier XI vehicles, a new German heavy line, light tank role changes, and updated matchmaking. The official Update 2.4: Overdrive overview also details a new Personal Mission Operation, an Onslaught season cycle, and rewards for returning players.
Four German heavy tanks lead the Tier XI expansion
Update 2.4 introduces a German heavy tank branch containing four vehicles and ending with the Tier XI Pz.Kpfw. Neu. The tanks share the Shell Calibration System, which lets players adjust shell parameters more precisely for a selected target and then recalibrate quickly as the fight changes.
The remaining five Tier XI vehicles represent five different nations. Their mechanics cover adaptive autoloaders, alternate firing modes, rocket-assisted weapons, and advanced reconnaissance systems. Wargaming has not provided vehicle names or detailed statistics for those five tanks in the update overview, but each is designed around a different way to approach a battle.
New effects make combat information easier to read
Battle feedback is another major part of Overdrive. New visual effects give more information about shots, ricochets, penetrations, and impacts, making it easier to understand what is happening during a hectic exchange. New sound effects accompany the visual changes with fuller combat audio.

Light tanks also receive a new identity system. They now fall into one of three battlefield roles: Scout, Versatile, or Support. More than 30 vehicles have been rebalanced to fit those roles while keeping their individual characteristics intact.

A Scout focuses on vision control and spotting. Versatile vehicles are built to remain useful as the battle develops, while Support tanks provide sustained fire, help allies, and contest important positions. The new structure gives the matchmaker clearer categories to work with.
Matchmaking will compare light tank roles across teams
The new matchmaking rules aim to create more symmetrical teams by pairing Scouts, Versatile tanks, and Support vehicles with their counterparts. Battles at Tier VII and above will have no more than two light tanks per team, while wheeled vehicles remain limited to one per team and are balanced against one another.
Update 2.4 also begins testing a system intended to reduce repeated map appearances. The goal is to add more map variety across a play session without changing the core battle format.
A new Personal Mission Operation rewards the Fossa VM 68
The third Personal Mission Campaign gains a new Operation with fresh objectives, challenges, and rewards. Players can start it without completing the previous Operation, which removes a progression requirement for anyone who wants to work on the new missions first.
Its main reward is the Tier X Fossa VM 68, described as the first German wheeled medium tank. Completing the Operation with Honors also grants an exclusive 3D style for the vehicle.
Spotlight puts three vehicles before the battle begins
Before each battle, three vehicles from the team can appear in a cinematic introduction, with one taking the central position. Placement may depend on performance during the current session, account milestones, vehicle customization, or a combination of those factors.
It is a small presentation feature, but it gives strong performances and carefully customized vehicles a moment in the pre-battle sequence before the countdown ends.
Onslaught begins the Year of the Phoenix
Onslaught starts a new annual cycle called the Year of the Phoenix, made up of three consecutive Seasons. The mode adds nighttime battlefields with limited visibility, along with Illumination Flares that can reveal hidden enemies.
Updated Role Skills will also be part of the cycle. Players can compete for rewards including Fireborn, a special version of the BZ-75 with a 3D style.
Returning players and the 16th Anniversary receive extra rewards
Players who have stayed out of battle for more than 60 days can log in to receive a return package. It includes 30-day rental access to Tier VIII and Tier IX Premium vehicles, x5 XP missions, Personal Reserves, 2D styles, and 30 days of WoT Premium Account time.
The 16th Anniversary of World of Tanks is also running through the end of August. Anniversary gifts include a crew member with three perks, WoT Premium Account time, an exclusive 2D style, and other prizes. The Anniversary Journey provides another reward path, while selected Update 2.4 feature articles published during August contain gift icons that players can use to claim complimentary items.
