Remedy Pitches CONTROL Resonant as a Day-One Buy for September

CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon said hands-on previews earned praise and that the sequel ranked among the top three pre-ordered games in the US, Germany, and Brazil.

Remedy Entertainment is presenting CONTROL Resonant as a launch-day purchase ahead of its September 2026 release. The sequel will enter a busy autumn window, but CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon said the studio believes its quality and distinct identity can help it stand apart.

Remedy’s 2026 half-year financial report said media and content creators praised the game after playing a large portion of it during the second quarter. A separate three-hour preview characterized CONTROL Resonant as a blend of Alan Wake‘s cinematic direction and the original Control‘s action. The company also reported that, after pre-orders opened, CONTROL Resonant ranked among the top three pre-ordered games in the US, Germany, and Brazil.

The sequel has also gathered 1.5 million wishlists across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S ahead of launch.

Remedy’s launch-day case for CONTROL Resonant

Gaudechon described the studio’s priorities in the report, writing, “Our first priority is to ship an outstanding game, and that guided how we selected the release date. We position CONTROL Resonant as a must-have day-one purchase while also building CONTROL into a lasting franchise.”

He added that the game would be available across all major platforms from day one. Remedy also believes the autumn release calendar has become slightly less crowded since the sequel was first revealed, giving the studio more confidence in its release strategy.

CONTROL Resonant‘s September window will still place it near The Blood of Dawnwalker, NBA 2K27, and other releases. The sequel is scheduled to launch on the same day as Silent Hill: Townfall and one day before FC 27, while Marvel’s Wolverine is due shortly beforehand.

Capcom moved Onimusha: Way of the Sword forward, placing it closer to The Blood of Dawnwalker. The two games are scheduled for September 3 and 4, 2026, adding even more competition to the month. Remedy’s day-one language is a clear statement of intent in a month with plenty of competition.

A longer follow-up than the original Control

The sequel is also shaping up to be a much larger time commitment than the first game. Earlier details put CONTROL Resonant’s planned campaign at about 30 hours, with players pursuing extra content and full completion potentially spending close to 50 hours.

That broader scope fits Remedy’s plan to grow CONTROL into a lasting franchise, while the studio’s comments suggest it wants the sequel to make a strong first impression when it launches in September.

Remedy has also shown the sequel through a story trailer.
